What Does the Flash S9’s Justice League Mean for the Arrowverse?

The promise of a Justice League protecting Earth-Prime after Crisis On Infinite Earths finally came to fruition in The Flash season 9. The first hint of a Justice League forming in the Arrowverse went in the final scene of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

We saw Martian Manhunter, Batwoman, White Canary, Supergirl, Black Lighting, Superman, and The Flash gathered to dedicate a memorial to the fallen Green Arrow. This led The Flash to reveal that he had set aside the building where they built the monument as a base of operations.

Formed by Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen, the Arrowverse’s Justice League comes complete with its own Hall of Justice. It sports a roster comprising a few big names in DC’s library. Stephen Amell’s Green Arrow, who died before the team was officially created, was declared an honorary Justice League hero during their first team meeting.

Barry Allen Confirms The Crisis Team is Called “ The League”

The Flash season 9, episode 7, “Wildest Dreams,” found Dreamer from Supergirl traveling to Central City to seek Iris West-Allen’s help. The two were attacked and trapped in the Dreaming, but Barry Allen discovered their bodies and safely transported them to STAR Labs.

With all of Dreamer’s teammates in National City said to be off-world, there was no obvious source of information to seek help regarding how to wake Dreamer and Iris up safely. This prompted Barry Allen to say that he would “call the League,” along with his friends Cisco Ramon and John Diggle, to see if they had any ideas.

This confirmed that the team formed following Crisis on Infinite Earths was known as the Justice League.

Is The Justice League Confirmation Too Little, Too Late?

Unfortunately, the revelation that the Justice League exists on Earth-Prime is drastically undercut by how it was revealed. The Flash season 9 episode “Wildest Dreams” is a fantastic showcase for Dreamer as a character.

It might serve as a solid backdoor pilot for a Dreamer spinoff series. It was also a remarkably low-stakes episode given the sorts of emergencies Team Flash typically tackles. This made the revelation that the Justice League existed and used that name incredibly anticlimactic.

It is still possible that the Justice League might put in an appearance as part of an epic battle before the final episode of The Flash. Given what little is known about the story of the last episodes and the characters that have yet to be introduced, it seems unlikely.

And yet, it would be fitting for the Justice League to make their first appearance in the Arrowverse’s final hour, hinting at the adventures to come in the same way as the Stargirlfinale.

Only 1 Justice League Character is Still In The Arrowverse

Presumably, six of the seven Justice League members still exist in the Arrowverse, although only one is still relevant in 2023. Barry’s show remains on the air for the time being. Tyler Hoechlin continues to play Superman, but the hero featured on Superman & Lois isn’t the Arrowverse version.

Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane exited the Arrowverse after Batwoman season 1. As for the others, they still hold their respective superhero mantles but were rendered inactive by their shows’ separate cancellations.
