An episode like Rewardishment really highlights the depth of how your friends are your chosen family. The episode starts with Sophie’s inability to drive, exposing each character’s war with a task, and ends with all of them overcoming their fears, even if that sounds exaggerated.
The themes of friendship and humor are quite balanced in this instalment of How I Met Your Father season 2, but we’re still hung up on love. Sophie and Jesse have shared some sweet moments after their split, but they’re still not moving past the friend zone. Thus, we’re no closer to knowing the identity of the father.
What’s next for the gang in the upcoming episode of season 2?
1. Episode 9 Synopsis/Speculation
Val brings Sophie to a work event so they can party all night with the rich and famous. Jesse wants to introduce the friends to a new girl he’s seeing, forcing them to spring into action and invoke the “Welcome Protocol.”
The hope of seeing Jesse and Sophie getting back together gets smaller and smaller as season 2 progresses. First Meredith, then Sophie’s new dates, and now Jesse seeing another girl.
We will have to wait and see who the new girl is, but Sophie might not be too awkward since she’s going to a posh party with Valentina! Yep, they’re not getting together anytime soon.
Ellen and Rachel still seem to be going strong, as do Hannah and Sid, but I’d like to see some drama here too.

5. Episode 8 Recap
Sophie reveals her taxi trauma and explains that’s why she never learned to drive despite trying to do so several times.
The gang chimes in with their own worries – Valentina reciting the same as Sophie, Charlie’s inability to shave, Ellen’s trouble with standing up to Rhonda, Sid’s failure at chugging a beer, and Jesse’s problem of never having pulled off a vertical lasso.
Sid proposes they try to accomplish these tasks before 48 hours under the rule of Rewardishment.
Sophie and Valentina join a driving school, where Valentina learns she’s nearsighted and thus changes her mission to put in eye contacts. Sophie’s instructor has a heart attack, and Jesse helps her with driving.
There they share a heart-to-heart where Sophie gets upset that Jesse has dating apps, and Jesse apologizes; the two then understand how their actions were unwarranted.
Meanwhile, the others also face hurdles in completing their tasks. After ending up at the hospital, Charlie successfully shaves a pre-surgery patient and helps Sid achieve his goal, too, even inadvertently helping Valentina.
Ellen also completes her task with Jesse’s help, but Jesse fails to do his hoop.
Sophie explains why he’s unable to do so, and Sophie assures that the family he’s waiting for is surrounding him, and he finishes the vertical lasso. But they all miss the deadline and contract bacterial meningitis after sipping from the bar mat.
6. About How I Met Your Father
How I Met Your Father (HIMYF) is a spinoff series of the incredibly successful CBS show, How I Met Your Mother. The original show ran for nine seasons, from 2005 to 2014, quickly making its mark with a dedicated cult-like fanbase.
HIMYF was announced to start production in April 2021 with the Lizzy McGuire star Hilary Duff playing the lead called Sophie, narrating her journey to her children in the future.
The show’s flashbacks will start from Sophie and her close friends navigating love, life and struggles in the modern era of dating, paying bills and more, in 2021.
Created by writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger of This Is Us fame and directed by the original show’s director, Pamela Fryman, the first season of HIMYF is revealed to have 10 episodes. No further details have yet been released.
