In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Lyle discussed how a conversation with a friend informed the creative vision for Yellowjackets season 2. She revealed that the unexpected success of season 1 has influenced the intensity of the upcoming season.

Read what Lyle said below –

“[Lyle’s friend] said, ‘Don’t worry. Nowadays, there’s a billion shows, and there’s a handful that people care about because they love them and a handful that people care about because they hate them, and everything else will just find its little audience.’ We took such comfort in that, and then it felt like people really liked it and we were like, ‘Oh s—. We really have to up the stakes in season 2.’ We had to try to make a better season than we did last time.”

Lyle’s recent comments about the increased stakes in Yellowjackets season 2 are in line with the hints that have been given in the show’s promotional material. An official teaser for the upcoming season suggests that the girls were not the only ones in the wilderness, indicating that there are other unknown forces that will be introduced in the upcoming episodes.

It seems that season 2 will also delve into the theme of cannibalism, as a scene in season 1 showed some of the girls hunting and killing for food during the winter.

In addition to the wilderness mysteries, Yellowjackets season 2 will introduce the adult versions of Lottie and Van in the present-day timeline. Season 1 concluded with the revelation that Lottie’s cult was responsible for Travis’ murder and had kidnapped Natalie.

With Natalie in their possession, the survivors are likely facing an even more dangerous situation in the current timeline. Lottie’s cult also brings the mysterious symbol from the woods into the present day, with members wearing the unknown sigil around their necks.

The actors of Yellowjackets have also revealed that season 2 will be more intense than the previous season. Sophie Nélisse, who plays young Shauna, stated that episode 6 will be particularly intense, and season 2 as a whole will feature more violence than season 1.

With the show’s success, Lyle’s promise of higher stakes in Yellowjackets season 2 is sure to deliver as the series explores the team’s darkest moments while lost in the woods. Fans can catch the premiere of season 2 on March 26, 2023, on Showtime.
