Ted Lasso Season 2: How And When To Watch And Everything We Know

The comfort TV hit of the coronavirus pandemic is back soon, with Jason Sudeikis as the American football coach who’s charming the world of English soccer.

When first premiering on the streaming platform in August of 2020, viewers didn’t know what to expect from the feel-good comedy, which stars Jason Sudeikis as a cheery American football coach who gets hired to lead an English Premier soccer team called AFC Richmond.

But very quickly, the 10-episode first season became immensely popular. The 2020 awards season saw Ted Lasso stack up several SAG, Golden Globe and Writers Guild of America nominations and wins. Now, the series has been renewed for both a second and third season.

Ted Lasso season 2, the heart warming soccer comedy that streams on Apple TV Plus, is less than a month from release. The next season of the sports-themed TV show will be with us in late July, which means we don’t have long to wait for more of Ted’s signature charm, wit and biscuits.

1. Ted Lasso season 2 release date

Mark off your calendars now for some soccer starting Friday, July 23, 2021. The first three episodes of Ted Lasso season 2 are expected to be released on that date, followed by a new episode every Friday until the season 2 finale.

According to Collider, the second season of Ted Lasso will be 12 episodes long instead of 10, which means fans can expect a new episode to come out almost every Friday this summer.

2. How and when to watch

Season 2 of Ted Lasso premieres on July 23. You’re going to need to pony up and subscribe to Apple TV Plus to watch it, as it isn’t available on other services. Subscribing is $5 a month (£5, AU$8) or $50 yearly (£36, AU$66).

Before committing, you can sign up for a seven-day free trial of AppleTV+. After that, a subscription to the streaming service costs $4.99 per month.

Both seasons of Ted Lasso are available on the platform, which is compatible with select Apple TV, streaming, smart TV and gaming console devices.

Ted Lasso isn’t available on DVD or Blu-ray, and Apple hasn’t said if it will be released in those home-viewing formats.

3. Previews and more about season 2

In the season finale, we watched as AFC Richmond were relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.

This came courtesy of a last-minute winner for Manchester City, with the goal set up by none other than Jamie Tartt, who had been on loan at Richmond earlier in the season but was recalled midway through season 1.

The football side of Ted Lasso will likely be preoccupied with adjusting to the new level, then, but we suspect that AFC Richmond will be promoted straight back to England’s top tier in season 2.

At the end of season 2, Lasso’s team, AFC Richmond, was relegated from the Premier League to the Championship.

So the team brings in a new character, a sports psychologist played by Sarah Niles, and she doesn’t appear as easily bribed by sweets as Rebecca was, telling a horrified Ted she doesn’t eat sugar.

It stars Sudeikis as the titular character, Ted Lasso, joined by Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Juno Temple, and Sarah Niles among many others.
