Star Trek: Discovery S4 To Premiere Worldwide This Week Post Backlash

The upcoming season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery will release internationally, but before you get too excited – there’s a catch.

The official Star Trek account on Twitter announced that Star Trek: Discovery season 4 will be premiering internationally this Friday, along with an article detailing how international fans could watch it.

The ‘apology’ or rather, the announcement was aimed at the series’ international fans. The post begins with a “we hear you,” referencing the backlash that ViacomCBS received after pulling Discovery off Netflix right before season 4 was scheduled to premiere, making it inaccessible for fans outside the US.

The statement further added, “Star Trek has always put its fans first.” However, a majority of the fans were still displeased, countering that they should’ve not taken it off Netflix before season 4, to begin with.

According to the announcement, the first two episodes will be available from November 26, followed by new episodes on a weekly basis.

This includes Paramount+ subscribers in Australia, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Finland, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Sweden, Uruguay, and Venezuela, where the service is available.

In an attempt to compensate for the move, the network is also offering new membership promotion in these above-mentioned regions on Paramount+ for 50% off for the first three months with code STARTREK.

Pluto TV will stream new episodes on its Sci-Fi channel each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK. Season 4 will also be available for purchase on select digital platforms in the UK, Germany, France, Russia, South Korea, and other select countries.

This change is definitely better than the previous move but still prioritizes keeping all the Star Trek titles together under the ViacomCBS banner. So, fans who wish to watch the new season will still have to subscribe to Paramount+ in regions where it is available.

The primary complaint now remains that it’s still only available in about 20+ countries, whereas, with Netflix, it would’ve been available in more than 190 regions around the world.
