Ahead of its third season premier, Hulu’s Solar Opposites has been renewed for Season 4. A serving of 12 episodes has been ordered, the same as season 3.
Haven’t heard of the animated series Solar Opposites before?
Four aliens who barely escape their exploding home planet land onto another catastrophe of a “home” that is our Earth. Now adjusting to the life of suburban America, the aliens Korvo, Terry, Yumyulack and Jesse, figure out how to continue surviving, whilst disagreeing on the state of the planet.
Korvo and Yumyulack can’t shake off how disgusting Earth is with its pollution, mindless consumerist behavior and the general frailty of the human species.
On the other hand, Terry and Jesse revel in their new home’s redeeming qualities with their fondness of the TV, fast food and fun human activities.
They do agree on one thing though – It is their mission to protect Pupa, a living supercomputer waiting for its soon-approaching evolution into its true form, that will consume the aliens and then terraform the Earth.
The series premiered in 2020 co-created by Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan for which it was commissioned for two seasons. According to Hulu, Solar Opposites became the most-watched Hulu Original comedy premiere of the year.
Debuting in a pandemic-stricken world, the show’s humorous but blatant honesty about the human state of affairs resonated with its audience. Season 2 (2021) hits quite close to home as the Shlorpians grapple with something we’re all too familiar with – wearing masks and the “new normal” that 2020 ushered in.
If you find a similar line of dark comedy being invoked elsewhere, that’s because Solar Opposites’ Roiland is also the genius behind the beloved Rick and Morty series.
Solar Opposites shines through in Hulu’s growing collection of adult animated series which includes the likes of Crossing Swords, Marvels M.O.D.O.K, soon-to-released Marvel’s Hit Monkey and Koala Man.
Solar Opposites Season 1 and 2 are currently available on Hulu, while Season 3 is scheduled for 2022.
