Marvel Studios has released the first trailer and release date for its upcoming animated series I Am Groot.
The Guardians of the Galaxy spinoff will revolve around the sentient tree’s childhood and his run-ins and adventures with unusual creatures. The series is divided into five shorts, directed by Kirsten Lepore, starring voice actors Vin Diesel (Groot) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket).
Marvel also showed one of the shorts titled “Groot Takes a Bath” at their panel on Day 2 of San Diego Comic-Con 2022. The trailer features multiple shots of the adorable guardian in multiple locations and is set sometime between Guardians of the Galaxy Volumes 1 and 2.
James Gunn, who will be making a comeback for the other Guardians of the Galaxy Spinoff after Volume 3 wrapped up, will not be making his directorial imprint in this animated series. His absence does not mean that the animated show, with its limited dialogue, will not be an interestingly wholesome watch.
The show will give us a photorealistic animation and a deeper look into the Guardians of the Galaxy adventures from Baby Groot’s POV after getting a sneak peek of it in the opening scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2. The hero of a few words will make his way to win fans over in his own sweet way.
The animated series comes at the right time to hold fans over for the upcoming Holiday Special, which is scheduled to release at the end of 2022, and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, which will premiere on May 5, 2023.
The trailer for I Am Groot also provides fans with an official release date for the five-part animated series on August 10, 2022. As of July 2022, five additional shorts were revealed to be in production for the Disney+ series.
About I Am Groot
I Am Groot is an upcoming Marvel animated television series created for the streaming service Disney+. Developed as a series of short films, it will follow Groot’s adventures as a baby and feature his home, Planet X.
The photorealistic animated series will be produced by Marvel Studios, directed by Kirsten Lepore. Vin Diesel will reprise his role to voice baby Groot.
I Am Groot will premiere on Disney+ on August 10, 2022.
