Lucasfilm finally drops the first trailer for Harrison Ford’s last adventure as the heroic archeologist, which reveals the confirmed title for Indiana Jones 5, hinting at the object around which the final hunt will center.
Like the previous instalment, the 2023 film’s title was kept under wraps by Disney and Lucasfilm for this long to keep the mystery alive. The trailer’s release and the title’s reveal come just a little over half a year before the film’s release in June 2023.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will focus on Indy’s last adventure. In 1969, Indiana and his goddaughter Helena go up against Voller (Mads Mikkelsen), an ex-Nazi working at NASA on the moon-landing program in a quest to beat the Soviet Union in the Space Race.
Previous instalments of the Indiana Jones film series have also featured the main object of the adventure in the title of the film, so it’s safe to assume Indy and Helena need the Dial of Destiny to stop Voller. But what exactly is this Dial of Destiny, and what purpose does it serve in Indy’s latest grand adventure?
The trailer doesn’t show much to answer the above question, but viewers catch a glimpse of the aforementioned dial in the trailer for a second. It doesn’t look like much, but the talk about the good old days of adventure, the glimpses of a younger Indy, and the hints about a magical element suggest the dial may be used like a time machine.
Even with the trailer, titles, and more plot details, many questions remain unanswered about the upcoming film, and now we actually have a few more. How do Voller and Indy’s paths cross? Will Helena be Indy’s successor in the world of Indiana Jones? Will the Dial of Destiny give Ford a chance to say a proper goodbye and set up a new torch carrier?
You can answer those questions yourself on June 30, 2023, when the film releases in theaters worldwide.
Strap in for the last adventure of Indiana Jones come next year in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
