Disney+ & Lucasfilm are Searching for Writers for Indiana Jones Series

Harrison Ford may be saying goodbye to Indiana Jones with the upcoming 2023 film, but his fans are definitely not ready to bid farewell to him. Maybe that’s why Lucasfilm is working with Disney+ on an Indiana Jones series and expanding the beloved franchise.

Harrison Ford confirmed at the D23 Expo in September 2022 that Indiana Jones 5 is coming to theaters on June 30, 2023, and that it will be his last appearance as the famous character. Ford has already landed another big franchise role as the MCU’s new General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross.

So, what exactly is the new Indiana Jones series about, and who will be at the center of the show, which is currently in the early stages of development?

According to Variety, the studio has only just begun searching for writers, and thus no plot details are available. The show could be a prequel or a spinoff to the series or the upcoming fifth instalment – or maybe we could get a new lead or someone replacing Indiana Jones?

The latter, though, is not on the cards, since Lucasfilm’s president clearly stated no actor can play the character other than Ford. And the early years of the character have already been documented in ABC’s Young Indiana Jones chronicles (1992-93), so that might also not be the focus of the Disney+ series.

The show is only in the early stages of development, with no writers or scripts tied to it yet, so updates are scarce.

But Disney+ is serious about growing the Indiana Jones franchise and the fans who’ve followed him on his adventures will need to be a little more patient, until more news about the series comes out.
