Inside Job Review: An Eccentric and Entertaining Take on the Deep State Subject

Netflix’s Inside Job is an animated series whose plot surrounds the subject of the Deep State. For the uninitiated, Deep State is essentially a group of people on the highest rungs of the societal ladder who can secretly influence large-scale decisions.

These can be deciding who should win elections, what kind of government policies should be implemented, and more. In simple terms, it is a type of secret governance where people use their unauthorized networks and ways to pursue their own goals. This affects the common folk in ways they don’t realize.

Clearly, the subject is fascinating and can also be called a conspiracy theory. The show, Inside Job, takes this concept as its premise and weaves the story around it.

1. Quick Review

Netflix’s Inside Job is an eccentric and entertaining take on the subject of a Deep State. Packed with humor, satire, and irony, this show never fails to impress its audience with its wit.

If you Google the show’s creator, Shion Takeuchi, you’ll find that she’s worked on projects such as Inside Out, Gravity Falls, Disenchantment, and more. While the latter two aren’t as popular, we all know about Inside Out.

The animated film is an ingenious work that personifies human emotions and portrays how they work in an offbeat manner. With Inside Job, the writer has taken a similar approach while keeping the content fresh and engaging.

2. Is Inside Job worth watching?

Inside is a must-watch for anyone who’s looking for offbeat humor and also appreciates satire. The series is riddled with some of the sharpest jokes I’ve ever heard. These take a dig at conspiracy theories, governments, people, and essentially everything that we observe in society.

If I had to draw a comparison to another show, I’d go with Rick and Morty or Bojack Horseman. These are vastly different from Inside Job, but the tropes of humor share quite a few similarities. So if you’re into these kinds of shows, you would enjoy bingeing Inside Job on Netflix.

3. Plot

The protagonist Reagan Ridley works in a company called Cognito.Inc, which happens to be a Deep State organization. The organization is home to beings such as human dolphins and has departments such as media manipulation.

While she wants to go up the ranks and someday run the company, the CEO feels otherwise. In the series, she is working on a project called ROBOTUS, which is a robot president who could potentially replace the one in the White House.

Things go south for Reagan when ROBOTUS goes missing. What happens next is the main plot of the series.

4. Cast and Characters

Considering we’re looking at a Deep State organization, the TV show is packed with numerous characters. While their screen time might not be much, their impact on the story is significant.

Lizzy Caplan plays Reagan Ridley. Clark Duke plays Brett Hand, an amateurish employee newly inducted into the company and working with Reagan. We have Brett Gelman as Magic Myc, who can read minds, John DiMaggio as Glenn Dolphman, Tisha Campbell as Gigi Thompson, and a few others.

5. Final Thoughts and Grade

Overall, Netflix’s Inside Job is an absolutely entertaining watch and gives you a radically different perspective on the Deep State subject. Like the other shows I mentioned before, it is not too heavy and can be binged quickly.

So, if you’re not doing anything this weekend, catch this underrated gem. The show’s story and its various nuances will stay with you long after you’re done watching it. It is available for streaming on Netflix.

6. About Inside Job

Inside Job is an upcoming adult comedy animated series by Netflix. The show comes from Gravity Falls writer Shion Takeuchi and creator Alex Hirsch, who are the showrunner/creator and executive producer for the show respectively.

The voice cast includes Mean Girls’ Lizzy Caplan, Christian Slater, Clark Duke, Andrew Daly, Bobby Lee, John DiMaggio, Tisha Campbell and Brett Gelman.

Inside Job focuses on the anti-social genius Team Leader Reagan Ridley of Cognito Inc., a department in a shadow government organization that supervises every single conspiracy theory. It’s a workplace comedy of Ridley trying to figure out who’s running the world with conspiracy creatures – sentient mushrooms, half dolphins, and more.
