Is Charlie returning to the UK in HIMYF?

HIMYF Season 1 Episode 9 was as eventful as it gets. Sophie broke up with Drew in the hopes of getting together with Jesse.

On the other hand, Jesse listened to Meredith’s single, in which she expressed her love for Jesse and how she wanted to get back together with him.

But amidst all this, there might be a split second that you missed which could be of great significance. I’m talking about that moment when Charlie hugs Valentina in his apartment decorated with everything that would make Charlie feel at home in England.

In Episode 9, we see how Charlie feels homesick and desperately needs to feel like he’s in England. So is there any chance that Charlie will return to the UK?

Charlie might be leaving for the UK at the end of Season 1 in Episode 10. This is because of how homesick he feels in Episode 9, and it could be the cliffhanger on which Season 1 ends.

Here’s a quick recap and a context of Charlie’s story in Episode 9. Everything that went down might just be a foreshadowing of something bigger.

Charlie has been excited for two weeks about a soccer game that he wants to watch with all his friends, but none of them are interested.

With everything going on between Jesse, Sophie, Drew, and Meredith, everyone’s attention is on their relationship, among other trivial things.

So nobody watches the match, and Charlie admits to Valentina that he’s been feeling homesick lately. While this could just be a simple subplot of an episode in the larger scheme of things, it could also set up Charlie’s arc in the season finale.

Valentina tries to make up for the lost game by decorating Charlie’s apartment with the English flag, red phone booth, and a bunch of other things. She dresses up as Spice Girls and holds signs like in the film Love Actually.

While all this makes up for a cute moment between the two, when Charlie hugs Valentina, his expression changes, and his smile fades as the camera closes in on him. This could mean multiple things.

The first obvious guess is that Charlie might be leaving for the UK. This makes up for a great cliffhanger in the season finale and sets up Season 2, where we would see how Charlie and Valentina deal with the distance in their relationship.

An alternative could be that Charlie is hiding something really important from Valentina and perhaps even the rest of the HIMYF gang. It’s difficult to take that wild guess, and we can only know in the season finale, which is airing on March 15, 2022.
