Is House of the Dragon renewed for Season 2? Full Details Here

House of the Dragon ended on a tantalizing note, depicting Luke and Arrax’s death at the hands (or well, mouth) of the great Vhagar.

Throughout the episode, Rhaenyra has been doing her best to ward off a full-blown war, but this sad event will catapult the Blacks and Greens into the Dance of the Dragons.

So, will we have Season 2? When will it air?

House of the Dragon has been renewed for Season 2 with a total of ten episodes. While a release date has not been announced, it’s expected to air sometime in late 2023 or early 2024.

As we’re just done with S1, not many details about the next season have been released. But from a few interviews and information we have from the books, here is what you can expect for House of the Dragon S2.

House of the Dragon S2 Release Date

Season 1 was quite the thrilling ride, and the finale might leave you wanting more. However, I am sad to report that the wait for Season 2 will be long.

Filming for S2 was supposed to begin late in 2022, but certain locations, like Spain’s Cáceres, have been booked only for March-June 2023. With post-production, S2 looks like it will take almost a year to make.

This means that House of the Dragon S2 will likely air sometime in late 2023 or early 2024.

House of the Dragon S2 Plot & Characters

Now that S1 has finished setting up the conditions that lead to the formation of the Blacks and Greens, S2 will depict the different stages of the Civil War. This may include the Assault on Harrenhal, the Dragonseed, and the Battle of Gullet and Honeywire, among others.

I reckon that Season 2 will premiere dealing with Luke’s death, putting Blood and Cheese into motion.

In the S1 finale, we also have Jace riding off to the North to win over the Starks. So, it is possible that S2’s premiere will open up in Winterfell, introducing the enigmatic Cregan Stark.

As for the characters, expect to see the main cast return: Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, and Fabien Frankel, among others.

By now, you must’ve learned not to get attached to any Game of Thrones characters, so while the main cast will grace your screens for a while longer, any recurring characters may not share the same fate.
