Is Hugh Jackman Returning as Wolverine in Doctor Strange 2?

It’s been four years since Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine said goodbye to us after making his final appearance in 2017 film Logan. In the film, his character died and Jackman also made it clear with his statements that it was his final appearance as our favorite comic superhero.

But some philosopher once said if you want something with all your heart, the whole universe conspires for you to achieve it (I am paraphrasing). Seems like it wasn’t just words. Though we are yet to be blessed with an official confirmation, rumors suggest that Hugh Jackman is soon returning as Wolverine in the MCU.

They really need to stop playing with our emotions with such rumors. If you were one of those who sat in the theatre bawling your eyes out after watching Logan, you know what I mean.

Hugh Jackman is rumored to be returning as Wolverine in MCU’s upcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But there has been no official confirmation and Jackman has previously denied these rumors.

Hugh Jackman Might Return as Wolverine in MCU’s Doctor Strange 2

No one from Marvel Studios or from the cast and crew of Doctor Strange has confirmed or denied the rumors of Wolverine making an appearance in the upcoming movie. But I am hopeful.

Doctor Strange 2 already has already been confirmed to feature several appearances of many Marvel characters and there many other rumors floating about the MCU fandom apart from Wolverine’s rumored entry.

And guess what? It is not just Wolverine we are dealing with here, but Patrick Stewart as Professor X is apparently also making a much anticipated comeback in the movie.

Apparently, it was Sam Raimi’s idea to include both Wolverine and Professor X in the film because he wants his films to surpass and overpower the excitement caused by Spiderman: No Way Home.

Since both Wolverine and Professor X died in Logan, there may be several theories of how they are going to make another appearance in Doctor Strange 2. But the rumored reports have an explanation for that as well!

All in all, we do not yet have a yes or no answer to whether we will finally see Jackman as Wolverine once again on the big screen. But something is better than nothing, so for now, let us hope this is true and be happy with the rumors.

How will Wolverine Make his Comeback?

This is a valid question because as we all know, Wolverine as well as Professor X died in Logan. Though the MCU timeline is all over the place and nothing is really impossible in this universe, the makers do owe us an explanation.

So according to the reports, MCU will in no way tamper with Logan and its storyline or change the ending by suggesting the characters lived or something. Instead, Jackman and Stewart will both be playing variants of Wolverine and Professor X respectively in the movie.

This way, the X-Men characters can become the part of the Sacred Timeline and their deaths will be retained, as well as their journey from X-Men (2000) to Logan (2017). I would say this is a good move because tampering with the X-Men timeline would also mean playing with the emotions of many fans of the series.

Also, it would further complicate stuff up. So the variant theory actually works. Both Wolverine and Professor X will allegedly have limited screen presence in Doctor Strange 2 but we really aren’t complaining, are we?

The rumors anyway sound too good to be true, especially when Hugh Jackman himself has subtly denied such rumors. So even a 2 minute appearance or so would be a lot at this point.

What did Jackman say About his Return?

Hugh Jackman himself sparked off rumors of his return into the MCU when earlier this year he shared Wolverine artwork on his Instagram and also shared a photo in his story with Marvel boss Kevin Feige.

But when asked about the same, he subtly denied the rumors saying that his intention was not to spark off the controversy. He said,

I literally was re-posting fan art and I do it quite a bit because I just love it. And I love the fans. And then I was off doing something and I came back and I’m like, ‘Oh, I think I broke the Internet.

No, no, no, no. Guys, sorry. Didn’t mean that. I really didn’t mean that. I’m really sorry.’ And I thought, ‘No one’s going to believe me.’

But that was the case. And you guys are just too fast for me. Clearly way too fast and smarter than me. I just love the fans. And so, when cool things come my way, I’m going to pass it on.

He has called Wolverine to be the “role of a lifetime” and has also said that it is a thing of the past. But again, denial of rumors is not new for MCU actors, is it? That does not mean we have to give up hope.

Here’s hoping that the rumors are true and Hugh Jackman is indeed making a comeback as Wolverine to win our hearts once again!
