Is MODOK Show In The MCU/Canon?

Marvel’s MODOK released last month, and it had drawn a lot of attention even before its premiere. The creators promised an off-beat adult animated series, and whether or not they delivered, fans are quite excited about it.

The show has got a different take on dry and dark humor, and though personally, I felt it didn’t leave an impact on me, the most hardcore fans of the MCU and the comics did love the evil genius MODOK.

After the show’s release, the fans were left with several questions, but one of the most prominent ones was “Will MODOK be part of the MCU and is MODOK canon?”

No, MODOK is not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview with comicbook.com, creator Jordan Blum stated that it would be separate from the canon.

In fact, he got to choose his universe number for MODOK, and he chose his son’s birthday, 12/26. So MODOK is set in Earth 1226.

Jordan Blum explains that though there’s a certain amount of importance given to canon, it doesn’t equal quality. And perhaps that makes sense since the possibilities in a standalone universe are endless. The show can explore possibilities that are practically endless without any necessity to tie it back to the storylines of the MCU.

In season 1 we see MODOK trying to conquer the world while trying to protect his organization A.I.M and also mend ties with his family. As the plot steers through this supervillain’s journey there are several revelations and it all comes down to him choosing between his family and his ambition.

Does he choose his family over his ambition or the other way round? Or maybe he gets both? Well, why don’t you find out. But before you do, beware. It’s going to be roller coaster ride and you might find yourself siding with a supervillain!
