The Boys: Is Homelander the son of Soldier Boy?

The Boys Season 3 gave us some amazing reveals which changed the course of the story drastically, and Homelander being Soldier Boy’s son is definitely one of them.

Episode 7 revealed that Homelander is Soldier Boy’s own son. He was born in the Spring of 1981, when Vogenbaum used Soldier Boy’s sperm sample to create a new kid, who is now Homelander.

In Episode 7, titled “Here Comes a Candle to Light You to Bed,” the most significant story arc was that of the clash of the two villains: Homelander and Soldier Boy. The two were initially set against each other.

Soldier Boy

Ever since Soldier Boy entered the present-day world, he has only wanted one thing—revenge against those members of Payback who led him to get kidnapped by the Russians. He partnered with Hughie and Butcher, which meant he would eventually bring Homelander down.

But after tracking down Mindstorm, Soldier Boy learns a fact that changes the entire direction of his story. He learns the true identity of Homelander.

Soldier Boy reaches Mindstorm, who has telekinetic powers, with Hughie and Butcher’s help. Mindstorm puts Butcher into a trance which would eventually kill him. So, to save Mindstorm, Hughie has no choice but to act against Soldier Boy briefly, by teleporting him to Butcher so he could wake him up to save his life.

Hughie had promised that he would teleport Mindstorm out of there, but he was too late. Soldier Boy found them before and got hold of Mindstorm, since he wanted answers. This is when he found out the truth about Homelander.

After hearing this ‘truth’, we see Soldier Boy completely bash Mindstorm’s head in. Butcher and Hughie wonder what was the truth that made him do so, but they do not understand. However, it is revealed later on over a phone conversation between Soldier Boy and Homelander.

Homelander is actually Soldier Boy’s son. Back in 1981, Soldier Boy was called to Jonah Vogelbaum’s office, where he provided a sperm sample. He was told that this was for something related to genetics.

But this sperm was used for something else. Vogelbaum made a kid, who was born in Spring 1981. Speaking to Homelander, Soldier Boy says that if they would have kept him around, he would have let Homelander take the limelight.

“What father wouldn’t want that for his son?”—Yes, that’s what Soldier Boy tells Homelander, proving that he was actually his son. However, this did not stop the two from having their promised clash in the season finale.

In the finale, Soldier Boy explains how he was always considered a disappointment by his own father and did not want that to happen to his son. Yet, when he finally sees Homelander teary-eyed on the thought of having a family, he feels that Homelander does not fit his idea of masculinity.

Pretty toxic, if you ask me. Soldier Boy thinks Homelander is beyond helping. So, the big reveal does not really change much. The disappointment almost becomes a legacy, passed on from one generation to another.

About The Boys

The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.

The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
