In a recent interview with EW, the original Dexter showrunner discusses the significant question ringing in every fans’ mind: Will Harrison turn out to be a serial killer like his father, Dexter Morgan?
Clyde Philips answers the questions in vague terms, keeping the excitement for the upcoming series alive.
Dexter: New Blood is a revival of Showtime’s original fan-favorite series, Dexter. Set a decade after the events of the final season, New Blood focuses on Dexter’s relationship with his (quite literal) new blood, his son, Harrison.
Philips discussed the father-son dynamics, giving a brief history of the abandoned Harrison and a lost Dexter—which essentially is the base for New Blood.
Harrison feels abandoned and has felt the pain of that every day. It’s a big, long, difficult bridge to cross for both of them. Dexter doesn’t really know how to be a parent, and this kid has been deeply hurt by his father having left him.

When directly asked if Harrison inherits Dexter’s dark side, the showrunner replied that “those questions get asked and answered.”
Philips left Dexter after Season 4, much to fans’ disappointment as the show’s finale became one of the most controversial in the history of Hollywood shows. But it looks like fans weren’t the only ones upset.
Philips got candid as he revealed to EW that “the show went off the rails” in the final season. He was quick to add that it wasn’t his place to criticize anyone as he wasn’t with the team and had no clue about their struggles.
Dexter: New Blood now, in a way, serves as a redemption series for the loyal fans who invested their precious seven years in the show.
The last we saw of Harrison was a small kid abandoned by his dad, as Dexter fakes his death to start afresh as a lumberjack in a far-off town.
Killing urges might not, but the son has definitely inherited the sharp skills of his father as he tracks Dexter down to get answers to all the mysteries.
What will the dynamics of a serial killer and his abandoned son getting back together be like? Considering that Clyde Philips is back, we’d say scary, emotional, and full of blood.
Dexter: New Blood premiered on November 7, 2021, and will air every Tuesday on Showtime.
