World War Z Actor is Hopeful for a Sequel Even After a Decade

For someone missing zombie movies in these times of superhero and sci-fi films, I might have some news on a decade-old franchise. Do you remember Brad Pitt’s 2013 zombie horror movie World War Z? Well, plans for a sequel were in the making for a long time, but World War Z 2 was scrapped in 2019 due to budget issues.

But despite ten years having passed since the original, franchise star Mireille Enos still hopes that the audience gets a chance to see the sequel. In an interview with The Wrap, the actress stated a sequel would “still be great” and “never say never” while commending the script and idea. Read her full comment below:

The script for the second movie was great. I wish the world could get to see it. We got really close to making a sequel. At one point, David Fincher was signed on; there was a completed script that was excellent, and then one thing and another, you know [and it never got made]. But never say never. I still think it would be great.

The market for zombie projects is ripe with The Last of Us trending, and several Walking Dead spinoffs lined up for the coming years. The small screen is investing in more apocalyptic stories featuring the undead, so why not the big screens?

The 2013 film was a commercial success and the most profitable in its respected sub-genre at the time. Enos has already stated she’d love to come back for a potential sequel, but other franchise stars like Brad Pitt, Daniella Kertesz, James Badge Dale, and others have yet to show an interest in it after all these years.

According to previous speculations, the sequel would have focused on how the vaccine introduced at the end of the original film lasted only 36 hours, resulting in the sprouting of a plan to pit the infected against each other. Would you want to see it if Fincher were to adapt this storyline and expand on it to make an action-packed film?
