Liam Neeson is shutting down rumors that he’ll reprise his role in the Star Wars franchise for the upcoming Disney+ series focused on Obi-Wan Kenobi.
On Wednesday, the Oscar-nominated actor dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss his new Netflix film, The Ice Road. The late-night host went on to enquire him about appearing in the Star Wars series, which also stars his Phantom Menace castmate, Ewan McGregor.
The reason fans loved Qui-Gon despite being such a short-lived hero was mainly because of his camaraderie with his apprentice, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor).
The upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series will reunite Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan and Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader.
“I heard Ewan McGregor was going to do a series. No, I don’t think so. No, I haven’t been approached.”Liam Neeson
Neeson also joked that they don’t have enough money to get him back. However, Neeson has already reprised his vocal cameos in Attack of the Clones and The Rise of Skywalker.
Kimmel took Neeson at his word but made the salient point that Neeson is such a veteran actor that he could easily be lying and the comedian would never be able to tell.
See if you think Neeson is telling the truth by watching the interview below:
While Qui-Gon died in The Phantom Menace, Yoda revealed that he could commune with him in the closing minutes of Revenge of the Sith. So while Qui-Gon can appear as a Force Ghost, Neeson would still have to be asked first.
While it’s possible that Neeson is telling the truth, it would be a significant missed opportunity not to do something with Qui-Gon in the series, especially given how important he was to the stories of both Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker.
There is always the chance that Neeson and Disney are keeping the inclusion of Qui-Gon Jinn a secret. A third theory is also gaining traction, about the recent trend in Star Wars projects to replicate iconic characters using CGI.
No matter what happens, fans have to wait a bit longer to find out the decisions that are being made behind the scenes.
