J K Simmons In Talks To Return As Commissioner Gordon For Batgirl

J K Simmons is currently in negotiations for reprising his role as Commissioner Gordon in the upcoming Batgirl. He has previously played the role in both versions of the Zack Snyder directed Justice League.

Simmons’ announcement comes via an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, just a week after Leslie Grace (recently, In the Heights) was named as DC’s new Batgirl.

Simmons will be playing a pivotal role in the movie, as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon is his character’s daughter.

In some comic book storylines, Commissioner Gordon to seen to play Batgirl’s uncle/adoptive father. So, we are yet to see which path the movie takes.

In 2019, Simmons had also disclosed how he was signed on for three movies and would love to return to the role of Commissioner Gordon. It seems that the call has come through.

As a character in DC, Commissioner Gordon has been a well-established and consistent figure, appearing in 1939’s Detective Comics No 27.

To note, this was right into Batman’s first appearance as well, making the Commissioner the first supporting character to be introduced.

Batgirl would go on to be tied with Commissioner Gordon in the 1960s, where she appeared both in the comics as well in the 1966 TV series Batman.

While Warner Bros has not yet announced a release date, Batgirl may arrive as soon as 2022. Other than Grace and Simmons, the film’s cast too remains unannounced.

For Simmons, his immediate next appearance will be in Tomorrow’s War alongside Chris Pratt, as well as in the role of J Jonah Johnson in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
