Rush Hour 4 Confirmed? Jackie Chan Reveals Exciting Details

Jackie Chan revealed that he met the director of Rush Hour 4 in Saudi Arabia to discuss the future of the action-comedy franchise.

Speaking at an event at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, the famous actor revealed that he doesn’t feel that the script for Rush Hour 4 is right yet.

“I will see the director tonight, and we will be talking about it.”, said Jackie Chan, though he didn’t confirm who the director was.

This announcement has been the most concrete evidence of the franchise’s return with the fourth installment. Rush Hour 4 has been in the talks for many years, but no confirmation had come before this.

The first three parts of the franchise were directed by Brett Ratner, the same guy who was called out in the #Metoo movement. It was a massive blow to the director’s career; he hasn’t directed any films since.

Besides this, Jackie Chan gave some information about his upcoming film, Never Let the Rain Stop. He revealed that the unnamed director had asked him to talk to the Saudi Film commission to get the project off the ground.

Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker

Originally launched in 1998, “Rush Hour” features Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan as two mismatched cops who try to collaborate on a case. The movie became an instant hit, encouraging the makers to come up with Rush Hour 2 and Rush Hour 3. Rush Hour 4 will probably be the last installment of this classic franchise as Jackie Chan wants to “make less action movies, more love stories”.

In a 40-minute interview mostly interjected by fans, Chan revealed that he almost turned down the Rush Hour franchise, as he was tired of being seen as a stereotypical police officer in US films.

The director finally persuaded him by saying he would not be an American-born Chinese person in the movie. Instead, he will play a Hong-Kong police officer who can’t even speak good English.

Chan recalled that after the first film was released, he got a call from Tucker and Ratner, who said, “Dude! We’re a huge success, we’re $70m in the first weekend!”

The fourth installment has been on the rounds for many years now. In 2017, Jackie Chan confirmed that he had agreed on a script, while Tucker revealed that the last installment would be “the rush of all rushes”.

Whatever happens, it can be ascertained that the makers will end the franchise with a bang!

About Rush Hour (franchise)

The Rush Hour franchise is a series of American action comedy films created by Ross LaManna and directed by Brett Ratner with both Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker in leading roles.

All three films center around a pair of police detectives, Chief Inspector Lee (Chan) and Detective James Carter (Tucker), who go on their series of misadventures involving corrupt crime figures in Hong Kong and Los Angeles. The films incorporate elements of martial arts, humor, and the buddy cop subgenre.

The films were released theatrically from 1998 to 2007, attaining commercial success, but critical reception was mixed.
