Here’s How James Gunn Decides The Length of Peacemaker Episodes

Guardians of the Galaxy’s director James Gun surprised all when he was announced as the director of the upcoming The Suicide Squad. His love for comics spreads across the designated boundaries of DC, Marvel and others, and is evident in the enthusiasm he shows for his newest endeavor – Peacemaker, made for digital streaming on HBO Max.

Like any other production, the nitty-gritties of Peacemaker are being kept top secret.

But that doesn’t stop Gunn from sharing updates and behind-the-scenes about this passion project on Twitter. In one of his latest tweets, he answers a fan question on how he decides the length of the Peacemaker episodes.

Being made for a streaming platform, Peacemaker will be free of following set time restraints. It is yet to be determined if the eight episodes will fall into the 30-minute mark, or go for something longer.

But as Gunn puts it poetically in the tweet, the length is not a priority, getting the best cut for the episode is.

Another advantage for Peacemaker on HBO Max is that it is also free from strict censorship.

Extracting Peacemaker from the realm of The Suicide Squad and with the added comic book background of him blurring the lines between being a superhero, supervillian and a plain douchebag, Gunn also joked about how the show would only be 40 seconds like if they had to follow TV broadcasting standards.

The Suicide Squad is still awaiting its MPAA rating. With a probable “R” on the books, it will be no surprise if its spin-off Peacemaker is also rated Restricted.

Peacemaker will be the first TV series based in the DCEU, set to premier in 2022. Peacemaker is known as the pacifist, who is so committed to bringing peace to Earth, that he doesn’t mind wielding extreme violence to achieve his goals.

John Cena will return as the title character with Steve Agee, Danielle Brooks, Robert Patrick, Jennifer Holland, Freddie Stroma, and Chukwudi Iwuji as supporting cast.

James Gunn has not only written all eight episodes on the show, but will also be directing five of them and serving as overall showrunner.
