Oh, Potter! Malfoy Actor Discusses His Possible Return in Cursed Child

The magical world of Harry Potter is hard to get over, and no matter how much we get, we still want more. Even though Potterheads worldwide are still finishing up multiple playthroughs on Hogwarts Legacy, they hope to hear what’s next. While Warner Bros Media has no news, Jason Isaacs has spoken up about his possible return in the next probable HP project.

Speaking with Radio Times about his new gaming role in The Last Worker, the Lucius Malfoy actor commented on how the Cursed Child might not translate as a film adaptation. But when asked about his return as the legendary HP character, he said, “never say never.” Read his full answer below:

I’ve seen the play. Both plays. I saw the play when it was two plays. It was utterly fantastic. And it did that extraordinary thing that the books did, which is, it brought people to the theatre who didn’t go to the theatre, had never gone before, and maybe will then go to the theatre a lot more.

We’ll see. It worked as a piece of theatre. Sometimes things that work as a piece of theatre don’t work as films. Sometimes things that work as books don’t work in theatre, so I wouldn’t… err… never say never.

If Harry Potter and the Cursed Child were to be made into a film, Lucius Malfoy would play a key role. After all, his Time Turner was essential to his grandson’s time-traveling plot. But while he has shown an interest in returning as the silver haired Deatheater, other franchise stars have not reciprocated such feelings.

Emma Watson hasn’t commented on wanting to return to the Wizarding World, and Rupert Grint has said he’ll come back if the others do too, but Daniel Radcliffe maintains he’s not yet ready to return to his career-starting role.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav previously stated his interest in furthering the franchise, and a Cursed Child film is the best way to do so, even though rumors say a Hogwarts Legacy TV series is also being suggested.

Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Harry Potter films, is itching to return to the magical world, stating he’s up to lead the play’s film adaptation.
