Jim Lee Says DC and WB Don’t Plan to Continue the SnyderVerse

Jim Lee, Chief Creative Officer at DC Comics, has confirmed that DC Films and Warner Bros have no plans to restore or further the Snyderverse in The DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Warner Bros had previously recruited famous director Zack Snyder to helm the DCEU films Man of Steel and Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice. After the massive success of both the movies, owing to the director’s vision, WB and DC signed Snyder on for three more films.

But due to Snyder exiting the contract after a personal tragedy in 2017, Justice League turned out to be his last venture within the DCEU. After Justice League’s release in 2017, fans were heavily disappointed with the film, blaming the studio for limiting Snyder’s vision, resulting in what could have been more than a mediocre film.

Following Justice League tanking at the box office, fans all over the internet demanded the director’s cut, with the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut forcing the production house to release a version of the film with the director’s unfiltered work.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League, or the Snyder Cut, went on to score awards at the Academy Awards and Critics Choice Super Awards, apart from adoration from fans all over. But the bad blood between WB and Zack Snyder may have made any team-ups in the future impossible.

Despite the Snyder Cut’s immense success, Warner Bros has decided to forego any plans to extend the SnyderVerse, focusing on other productions like Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, Black Adam, etc.

After The Flash, Snyderverse will officially be shelved, and the DCEU will extend to new superheroes like Blue Beetle and Batgirl. Robert Pattinson’s Batman has a future, while Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman are to be put on hold.

Jim Lee at SDCC 2022 opened up about Snyder’s involvement in upcoming DCEU projects. But when a fan asked about working with Snyder in the future, Lee dashed all hopes for Snyderverse fans.

I think the Snyder Cut was Zack’s vision realized, and it was a really satisfying story told, but there are no plans for additional work on that material. I was happy to help contribute to the pitch for the other stuff, and it kind of was fun to see that stuff get out there because I did that years ago.

Recently, WB has been under a lot of pressure, what with Ezra Miller’s scandal and the potential faking of the poll that got the Snyder Cut its Academy Award.

Still, after all of it, Snyder may not want to come back to the SnyderVerse himself, with all the current negative publicity surrounding the production company and the poor treatment of his work throughout the years.

While we can’t say anything positive about any future involvement of Snyder in the DCEU anymore, we can definitely count on the Snyderverse characters’ future. Aquaman and Wonder Woman have already got their sequels with Ezra Miller’s first and last Flash film too, and there is even a possibility that fans may get to see Henry Cavill’s Superman in Black Adam (2023).

About SnyderVerse

The SnyderVerse includes Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021), Man Of Steel (2013), and Batman VS Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016). Two other films were set to be included in the film series but have since been canceled due to DC and WB’s reluctance to continue the Snyderverse.
