‘JL Snyder Cut’ Makes Leto’s Joker Awesome Again!

Jared Leto‘s rendition of the Joker from Suicide Squad will be making a comeback in the upcoming “Snyder Cut” of Justice League, which is presently being filmed for a premiere on HBO Max in 2021.

In addition to resuscitating lots of unusual footage, Zack Snyder is also filming brand new scenes, on how Joker will be brought in. Snyder revealed two new photos of Leto’s Joker in an exclusive with Variety.

“I wanted to, of course, honor what had been created with him [Leto] because I thought it was really cool, but I also felt like—well, I’m not gonna tell you what happens in the little scene—but there is…some water has gone under the proverbial bridge between last we saw Joker and this appearance.”

“He’s a road-weary Joker, I guess that’s a way of saying it.”

“I will say that was really gracious with his [Leto] entertaining my idea and I told him it was a thing that I had felt like, even when I was working on Justice League in London, I felt like it was an inevitable course that the movie had to take. So when I told him it was a thing that I’d been kicking around in my head for quite a while, I feel like he just kind of warmed up to this idea that it was kind of an inevitable thing that kind of has to happen. I am grateful and I am forever in debt to his kindness for doing it.”

After making a debut in Suicide Squad, Leto’s embodiment of the Batman villain was nowhere to be seen, despite Warner Bros. originally having several plans for the character. And while Leto wasn’t in Birds of Prey either, a stand-in actor played the Joker briefly for a scene or two, effectively halting his story with Harley Quinn.

Nonetheless, Zack Snyder’s Justice League will reverse that, as the director is bringing the legendary villain back. It came as a surprise in October 2020, when it was confirmed that Leto would reprise his role as Joker. While additional filming did not go on for very long, Leto happened to be one of the actors that were part of it, leading to wide speculation about Joker’s part in the movie. Fans started theorizing that the Joker could be related to the Knightmare timeline, but that can only be confirmed once the trailer is out on February 14.

Snyder has already promised that Leto’s Joker will get a new look, which would be largely different from the design in 2016’s Suicide Squad. While his Joker card is more in focus than the villain himself, it’s quite clear that Leto will look nothing like he did in 2016.

Despite being in black-and-white, Joker’s hair is longer than it was in Suicide Squad. It also seems that he might be in a jumpsuit, probably an Arkham Asylum one. Plus, the look as a whole is more reminiscent of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker than it is Leto’s.

When his Suicide Squad look was first disclosed, it collected mixed responses. Despite having a fairly conventional Joker look with green hair and pale skin, fans had significant issues with the tattoos as well as some of his wardrobe.

For the “Snyder Cut”, it makes sense that his updated look fits better with the aesthetic. However, plot-wise, the Knightmare timeline would be several years ahead in the future, and as Joker transforms as a character, so does his look.
