David Ramsey will reprise his role as Arrow’s best friend and bodyguard, John Diggle, in an upcoming episode of Batwoman, reports TVLine.
Ramsey has been busy (directing, making guest appearances), but the Arrowverse with Batwoman Season 3 has been busier. The actor will be appearing on the show for the second time, the first being in Season 2.
In the upcoming Episode 9, Jada (Ribon Givens) will call her “old friend” Diggle to help sort things with her son. The episode featuring Ramsey will air on January 19, 2022.
As per TVLine, the setup has Jada worrying about rehabilitating her son Marquis, who turns to seek help from Diggle. Diggle has not just been Arrow’s confidante throughout the eight seasons, but he has also been portrayed as a sort of mentor for other Arrowverse characters.
The question of “Will Diggle end up being Arrowverse’s most trusted role model?” looms large over the show.
What’s more interesting is that somehow, the creators choose to build on his influential characteristics but deflect from talking about the major storyline fans have been waiting for—Diggle’s journey as the new Green Lantern.
Ramsey’s Diggle played a similarly important role in his Batwoman appearance. In Season 2, he befriends and advises a traumatic, in-a-really-bad-place-mentally techie Luke Fox to choose a better path, a non-violent path.
Diggle’s involvement shaped Fox’s life significantly as it is the start of the latter’s growth as the superhero Batwing.
Talking to EW in May 2020, showrunner Caroline Dries described Diggle’s greatest power: to alter major characters’ lives.
He really helps a major character take their next step into their own destiny of becoming a full-fledged superhero… Diggle has always been the person who can really tap into the humanity of our major characters.

As Dries explained, audiences can expect Diggle to play a similarly influential role in the upcoming Batwoman episode too.
Batwoman will return from hiatus on January 12, 2022, with Episode 8 of Season 3. Ramsey will appear a week later in Episode 9.
