Comic-Con 2022 is bringing iconic heroes back to fans most spectacularly and surprisingly. Keanu Reeves just made a maybe-not-so-surprising visit to the SDCC Panel, where Chad Stahelski, the director of his upcoming film, was a panelist. But the real surprise was yet to come!
The John Wick star revealed the teaser trailer for his 2023 film John Wick: Chapter 4. John Wick returns in the fourth installment of the very popular franchise to complete his promise of killing everyone. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, Rina Sayawama, Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgard, Shamier Anderson, and Hiroyuki Sanada.
The neo-noir action thriller, slated for a 2023 release on March 24, was supposed to come out in 2021. The release was delayed due to Keanu’s commitment to The Matrix Resurrections (2021) and COVID-19 restrictions. The delay came with no new updates, apart from new cast members addition, but now we have more than enough.
Stahelski has not promised a traditional ending for the so-called retired hitman, but this only steers the fans’ hopes in the franchise created by Derek Kolstad. Keanu Reeves has also stated that he will go on with these films “as far as my legs can take me, as far as the audience wants to go.”
Coming back to the teaser trailer, we see Reeves’ John Wick punching a roped pole with his bare hands as a voiceover asks the assassin, “Have you given any thought to where this ends? No one, not even you, can kill everyone.”
Perhaps it is precisely this statement that John Wick is trying to prove wrong in the film since we see a tremendous amount of action in the one-minute-long teaser. John Wick goes against his enemies at The High Table with samurai swords, axes, nunchucks, guns, and bare punches.
The trailer meshes multiple shots of fights spread in five locales according to the shoot locations—Japan, France, Germany, America, and Jordan. When Fishburne’s Bowery King asks John if he is ready, Reeves’ John Wick replies with a simple “Yeah,” as the trailer promises even more action involving knives, threats, and bows & arrows mixed into the upcoming film.
The trailer for the 2023 film has definitely skyrocketed the fans’ excitement, and as hopes for the action thriller rise, so does the standard of expectation for the film. We hope Keanu Reeves will keep us invested in this movie as he has done with his previous moves and tricks.
