Mandalorian Showrunner Shares Season 4 is the Middle of a Larger Story

Jon Favreau, creator and producer of the Mandalorian, recently confirmed season 4 is already in pre-production with a complete script before season 3’s premiere. The Mandoverse is moving quite ahead with several spinoffs, including Ahsoka Tano and Skeleton Crew, slated to debut on Disney+ in 2023, and it seems like the end is far away.

The Star Wars spinoff is already planned till season 4, and Favreau has no intention of stopping anytime soon. In an interview with Total Film (via GamesRadar), the creator explained that the next season is only the midpoint of the series, and he has not planned any ending yet.

No, I don’t – I think the beauty of this is that it’s a middle chapter of a much larger story. And though we’ll have resolution over time with these characters, I think that how these characters fit into the larger scope and scale, but it’s not like there’s a finale that we’re building to that I have in mind. I love for these stories to go on and on. And so these characters could potentially be with us for a while, and I really love telling stories in their voice, the way the adventures unfold, and I’m looking forward to doing much more.

Lucasfilm had a similar opportunity with The Book of Boba Fett, but while that didn’t work out, The Mandalorian has managed to keep the Star Wars fandom riveted from day one.

With the new season of the show and new series added to the little corner of the Star Wars universe, the fandom can rest at ease that they’ll have ample content to stream for the next few years.

But that doesn’t mean you should expect a decade more of The Mandalorian, Favreau and Filoni will hack out a prospective finale since it is vital to know when the story must end.

The Mandalorian returns to Disney+ on March 1, 2023, with season 3, so let’s just enjoy everything they’ve got to show us.
