Jurassic World Dominion Scores the Franchise’s Worst on Rotten Tomatoes

Released amidst much hullabaloo as the grand finale of the long-running franchise, Jurassic World Dominion has failed to live up to its expectations.

The finale of the Jurassic World trilogy, World Dominion, currently sits at a harsh 37% critics ratings on the review aggregation site, Rotten Tomatoes.

The numbers are meager, but they’re also consistent with the gradual downfall of the franchise.

The only movie to receive a score higher than 60% was the first and the original Jurassic Park, which sits at 92%.

The ratings for the next four installments look like this: The Lost World: Jurassic Park received 53%, Jurassic Park III went lower than the previous one with a score of 48%, Jurassic World brought in hope with 71%, but its sequel, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom fell drastically to 47%.

World Dominion created quite the buzz on the internet as it promised to bring back beloved characters from the first set of the trilogy.

The nostalgic element of the movie did wonders during promotions, but it seems like it failed to reflect the same magic on screen.

Out of the current 141 critic reviews, 88 have given it a Rotten rating.

Time UK’s Kevin Maher called the movie out for not doing what it’s supposed to do—generate some amount of fear or dread, saying,

“There’s not a single moment of genuine dread, fear or even mild unease.”

Meanwhile, IndieWire’s Siddhant Adlakha talked about it failing to have its own identity and relying too much on past characters.

“The only joy in this movie comes from its precise mimicry. It has no identity of its own, which becomes depressingly apparent when the franchise’s old and new characters finally come face to face.”

The Arizona Republic’s Bill Goodykoontz echoed similar feelings,

“The overstuffed, under-executed “Jurassic World Dominion” is kind of like one of those enormous pickup trucks with all the extra gizmos. Sure, it sounds good in theory, but then you realize it won’t fit in the garage.”

Lovers of Jurassic Park can decide on their own how deserving World Dominion is as the finale of the decades-long franchise when the movie hits theaters on June 10.
