‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ Has 10-Minute Intermission for Theatrical Showings

Zack Snyder recently revealed that his upcoming Justice League has a 10-minute intermission worked in, that will be featured in possible theatrical showings.

When the Snyder Cut was officially confirmed last year, one of the crucial questions was how it would be released. Statements suggested it would either be as a TV miniseries or a feature film. It was initially said it would be a 4-part show, but that was eventually changed to Justice League being a single, 4-hour movie debuting on HBO Max on March 18.

There are tons of examples of blockbuster films with long runtimes over 2.5 or even 3 hours, but the Snyder Cut comes in atypically long. Four hours seems to be a long time to spend watching one thing, regardless of how invested a viewer is. However, Zack Snyder himself appears to be mindful of that and is making sure he breaks the movie up, so it’s a bit more manageable.

This improvement was a game-changer for several reasons, considering the respective advantages and disadvantages of a weekly release. It is being said that the modification in the release strategy was due to specifics about talent compensation, but nothing has been substantiated.

While talking on the I Minutemen podcast, Snyder discussed Justice League‘s runtime and why it’s so long.

“If ever the movie’s able to be viewed in the cinema, we have a 10-minute intermission which is built into the movie. Which has a beautiful suite of music. So that adds an extra 10 minutes to the movie as well.”

What’s intriguing is Snyder precisely mentioned cinemas when speaking of the intermission. It’ll be interesting to see if this is featured on HBO Max or not. There are considerable differences between watching a film at the cinema and home.

People watching the Snyder Cut on HBO Max will be able to willingly pause or stop whenever they want, basically creating their intermission. That’s certainly not a luxury offered at the cinema, so there’s a possibility something special has been planned for any theatrical screenings. It would be nice for cinema-goers to have a chance to stretch their legs.

Although most DC fans will watch Zack Snyder’s Justice League for the first time in their homes when it releases on HBO Max, the director has been planning for a theatrical element to its release for several weeks.

A majority of theatres in the US remain closed due to the pandemic, and it’s still unspecified when they’ll be able to reopen. That makes it tougher to plan a Snyder Cut theatrical release. Snyder is famous for framing visually-stunning, action-packed scenes sketched to be seen on the biggest of screens. And something like Justice League definitely suits that bill.
