Neo and Trinity Go Deeper down the Rabbit Hole in the Matrix 4 Trailer

The wait is finally over! Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and the ill-fated (?) blue and red pills are back in the fourth installation of the Hollywood cult classic, The Matrix.

After 18 years, one legendary movie, and two subpar sequels, The Matrix: Resurrections, is back with its complex sci-fi world. The movie still has three more months to go, but the expectations are soaring at an all-time high.

Warner Bros premiered The Matrix Resurrections trailer live on YouTube today, on September 9, 2021. Around 39k people tuned in to watch Keanu Reeves back in action in the trailer.

And just like Neo asking, “Am I crazy?” in the first few seconds of the trailer, we’re wondering the same thing after watching 2:52 minutes of The Matrix 4.

The trailer shows both old and new faces, as we see Neo, now called Thomas, in a therapy session with Neil Patrick Harris as his therapist. He looks like a lost puppy, definitely not having any recollection of his past. The trailer itself starts with what looks like a CGI-generated neighborhood, making us unsure of reality and fiction from the get-go.

Among the many mysterious things, one thing is pretty sure—Thomas and Trinity do not know each other in this timeline!

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, as young Morpheus, challenges Neo, who ends up reawakening his powers during an action sequence with him. He’s also the one who extends his hands with a pill in each, telling Neo that it’s “time to fly.”

The flying karate scenes, Trinity back alive, Reeves back as Neo/Thomas, the utter confusion of what is real and what isn’t, everyone bending time and reality as if clay, The Matrix: Resurrections trailer offers a pot full of nostalgia.

There’s also Jonathan Groff, who will go down in history for his dialogue and gesture,

After all these years, to be going back to where it all started. Back to the Matrix.

Throughout the video, Jefferson Airplane’s iconic “White Rabbit” plays in the background, building moments and giving possible hints. Only this time, the “follow the white rabbit” message is a bit different, as Jessica Henwick is seen with a white rabbit tattoo.

We also see Priyanka Chopra Jonas reading Alice in Wonderland. As per the official synopsis, the fourth installation ventures “deeper down the rabbit hole,” and it is pretty evident with the trailer that it does.

The Matrix Resurrections – Official Trailer 1

While some fans are hyped up for Matrix 4 and were convinced by the action-packed trailer, some fans are pretty upset and think it looks more like a John Wick movie or even a lousy spin-off of the Matrix.

Whatever the case may be, The Matrix: Resurrections will premiere on December 22, 2021, in theaters and on HBO Max.
