2019’s surprise hit, Knives Out, made more than four times, maybe even eight, that of its budget at the box office. And if that’s not twisted enough for you to solve, wait till December 23, 2022, when Netflix releases the murder mystery’s sequel.
Knives Out 2, ahead of its exclusive release on Netflix, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2022. The early critic reviews pouring in have touted the sequel to be an even bigger monetary blockbuster coming Rian Johnson’s way.
The murder mystery, like the first film, will focus on Daniel Craig’s Detective Benoit Blanc solving an isolated murder case rolled into a story of mystery, comedy, and drama.
Joining Craig in the sequel are cast members Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Jessica Henwick, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, Dave Bautista, and Ethan Hawke.
The story will revolve around tech genius Miles Bron inviting his friends to vacation on his private Greek island, where suddenly a dead body turns up, and Detective Blanc is called.
According to early reviews, the sequel is wilder, crazier, and funnier than the first—better in every way, Rian Johnson has outdone himself. “A worth sequel to a modern mystery classic,” as some called it, the film has raised hopes of fans to see another blockbuster from Craig and Johnson.
Critics also praised Daniel Craig’s consistent rise in his work as Blanc and additionally also commended Kate Hudson, Janelle Monae, and other cast members for their performances.
The official teaser for the first sequel had been released a couple of days prior to the TIFF premiere, and another sequel is already underway. With nowhere to go but up, Rian Johnson is setting up a ladder to worldwide success with Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, coming to Netflix in December 2022.
