Kong Captured, Transported via Air in Latest ‘GvK’ TV Spot

The latest Godzilla vs. Kong TV spot gives a deja vu to the original movie showing Kong being escorted by choppers. Co-producers Warner Bros. and Legendary have been blasting us with GvK bombs since January. Just last week, a 40-second clip was released, teasing Godzilla’s first encounter with Kong in the film.

There are a bunch of movies coming to theaters in March, but none have generated the excitement as MonsterVerse’s latest installment. The first trailer came out in January and has so far amassed over 66 million views. It was followed by region-specific posters—a Chinese one teasing a showdown underwater and a Korean image revealing the colliding Titans. Different TV spots have also been popping up, including a look at the Titans’ battle in Hong Kong.

In the latest TV spot, a good chunk is made up of footage seen previously. But of the new shots, there is one featuring Kong being carried by air and multiple vehicles. Check out the video below (via FilmSpot Trailer) for the first 29 seconds.

This scene with the helicopters carrying Kong might be a homage to the original King Kong vs. Godzilla, which has a similar scene. In the 1962 film, too, a bunch of helicopters transports Kong to a waiting Godzilla. Godzilla vs. Kong‘s production designers have stated earlier that they watched all Godzilla and Kong movies to include Easter Eggs.

It seems likely that this scene is one of them. This ancient rivalry of two iconic, colossal monsters could be creating yet another lore in its wake. As one character says, “They have an ancient rivalry.”

In another new shot, Kong is falling onto what appears to be Hollow Earth. Could those copters be responsible for that? Finally, the spot features even more of the Hong Kong battle, showing Kong maneuvering around Godzilla’s atomic breath.

The film’s production houses, too, are not leaving any stone unturned in generating as much hype around the epic showdown as possible during a… yeah, that. There is already plenty of buzz about the aircraft carrier sequence almost everywhere online, confirming it to be 18 minutes long.
