Kraven the Hunter: Main Antagonist Actor Spills Major Spoilers

The Many Saints of Newark actor Alessandro Nivola joined the cast of Kraven the Hunter in an undisclosed role in March 2022. But now, Nivola has revealed that he will play the main antagonist in the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff and disclosed major spoilers about the film.

Sony’s Kraven the Hunter is a Spider-Man spinoff that will see the live-action debut of one of the founders of the Sinister Six, Spider-Man’s most formidable enemies in the comics, Kraven the Hunter. The film will follow Sergei Kravinoff and his transformation into the protector of the natural world and a big-game hunter.

Aaron Taylor Johnson will play the titular role of the Spider-Man villain in the film, which is releasing on January 13, 2023. Other villains from the Marvel comics joining Kraven in the movie are Christopher Abbott’s The Foreigner, Fred Hechinger’s Chameleon, and Ariana DeBose’s Calypso.

While we know Calypso will be Kraven’s love interest in the movie, we don’t know if the other villains will play the antagonists in the 2023 film or not. But we are sure that none of the above are the main antagonist.

The main antagonist, still undisclosed, will be played by Alessandro Nivola in the Spider-Man spinoff, and now we have more details about his character!

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nivola spoiled that his character’s limited CGI and his villainous transformation only come in the “final moments of the movie.”

It’s just a great character part, and I didn’t have to do any CGI. I didn’t have to do any green screen. I only transform physically in the final moments of the movie, so it’s just a classic villain role.

The actor also spoils a time jump in the film where the change in the character’s story will be clear in a gap between the years. The actor shows relief in not having to wear “a spandex suit or anything like that.”

It had a really interesting, complex psychology and personal history to draw on, and the movie has a time jump, so the character changes a lot from the way he is at the beginning of the film. It was as much of an acting opportunity as any other film I’ve done, and I didn’t have to contend with wearing a spandex outfit or anything like that.

The time jump and the mention of his transformation into a supervillain in the film’s “final moments” can lead to the assumption that Nivola’s antagonist may get his own feature, provided Kraven the Hunter doesn’t bomb like Sony’s previous Spider-Man villain spinoff (Morbius).

Or maybe, like the Vulture’s cameo in the post-credits scene in Sony’s Morbius, Nivola’s supervillain will only be shown in the post-credits. This theory still supports the rumor of Nivola getting a feature film in the future, depending on the 2023 film’s success.

With Nivola’s character’s identity still a mystery, we can only hope J.C. Chandor’s film will revive fans’ hopes for future Sony films featuring Marvel characters.
