Los Angeles Officials Report Cinemas Can Safely Open from Monday

Los Angeles county administrators have officially confirmed to reopen movie theatres after California was deemed to have met proper COVID requirements. After California registered 2 million doses of vaccination administered in the hard-hit sections, Governor Gavin Newsom’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy is finally on its way to start the process of easing requirements and opening public places.

Officials have reported that the shift into the less restrictive Red tier will be effective automatically from 12:01 a.m. on Monday. Indoor dining, indoor fitness centers, and movie theatres will be available at a limited capacity.

Following his statement from Wednesday, Newsom said that California would reach its threshold of 2 million COVID-19 vaccination doses administered to people from low-income and hard-hit sections of the society. Many were unsure about the plan’s progression and success, including Barbara Ferrer, the Director of the Los Angeles County Public Health Director.

However, with the recent announcement, L.A. officials have settled the matter, and after 48 hours of preparation, the county will move into the Red tier by Monday.

In her statement from Wednesday, Ferrer said the county plans on setting up its own regulations for the reopening of public places like movie theatres, gyms, restaurants, etc. The state restrictions have been made to ensure that the capacity of spaces is limited to 25% or 100 people, whichever is less. This means that most theatres will be limiting entry to 100 people, according to the order.

Among those to open soon is AMC Theatres, who will be back in business one week from tomorrow. Cinemark has announced that it will be opening soon and will share “a reopening update once government restrictions are announced.” On the other hand, TCL—which is host to the Chinese 6 and the IMAX Theatres, still seems to be debating about reopening next weekend.

With safety guidelines in place and the vaccination process speeding up like wildfire, the hopes of reverting to normalcy don’t seem to be too far. California’s success proves that 2021 might just be the year that COVID is completely eradicated as we move back into our normal lives.
