LOTR: The Rings of Power Premieres with the First Two Episodes

The Lord of the Rings spinoff series, based on the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien, has finally premiered on Prime Video with not one but two episodes!

In 2017, the action fantasy drama was announced with a five-season commitment, and on September 2, 2022, the series premiered with two episodes. The remaining six episodes will be released weekly every Friday.

The show depicts the events of the Second Age of Middle Earth, set 3000 years before The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. The TV series will follow the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron and the forging of the rings of power.

The show’s cast includes Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, and Dylan Smith, among many others.

The first two episodes focus on stories spread across the realms that every fan of The Lord of the Rings has come to know. We see the elf Galadriel who is adamant about avenging her brother and finding Sauron, the great dark evil that looms in an unknown realm.

We see the Elf Elrond seeking an alliance between elves and dwarves and visiting Khazad-dûm to rekindle his friendship with the dwarf prince Durin. The Silvan Elf Arondir takes his leave of the land of men disappointedly after the High King’s orders to remove Elfian outposts from men’s villages.

But the Orcs from Morgath’s rule have lingered on, despite some beliefs of their extinction, and Galadriel forges on with renewed hope to find Sauron. Arodnir and Bronwyn come face-to-face with Orcs, and Sauron’s torch was accidentally lit by Theo.

Harfoots Nori and Poppy witness a strange giant creature’s meteoric fall from the sky and wish to help him. But dark omens had previously marked his fall, and viewers watch aghast as The Stranger’s powerful magic has deadly effects, spelling danger for all.

The reviews for the show’s first two episodes are rolling in, and except for the complaints about the pace, the show has garnered favorable reviews. The fantasy adventure series is being praised for the cinematic depiction of the realms and the growingly interesting plotlines.
