Netflix recently revealed the trailer of the upcoming Korean romantic flick Love and Leashes and we can’t stop gushing over it. It’s almost Valentine’s Week and what is better than a fresh spicy romantic film to watch with your partner? Or with some steaming hot chocolate while spending some cozy alone time.
It works both ways. Coming back to the point, the teaser of Love and Leashes revealed some details about the upcoming movie that is all set to release on February 11, 2022, on Netflix.
Ahead of its release, here’s everything you need to know about the Korean romance.
Cast and Release Date
Love and Leashes is all set to get a worldwide release on Netflix on February 11, 2022.
The movie, based on a webtoon of the same name, stars Seohyun, better known for being a member of the K-Pop group Girls’ Generation. U-Kiss member Lee Jung Young will be starring opposite her.
The rom-com is being directed by Park Hyun Jin. In Netflix’s own words, it is a ‘spicy rom-com’.
As of now, only a short teaser of the film has been released. The 40-second teaser of Love and Leashes was released by Netflix on January 17, 2022. Here’s the link to the viral teaser:
The caption shared a bit about what to expect from the plot. It went, “Love is all about personal preferences. A rookie and an expert play a scintillating game. Get tied up with Seohyun and Lee Jun-young in this spicy rom-com Love and Leashes (sic).”
The official poster of the film is also quite interesting, which features the two leads with the caption, “Will you dominate me?” Seohyun’s character has her heel right on Jung Young’s neck—so, we all know what to expect.
What Is Love and Leashes about?
Now for the interesting, or in other words, “spicy” bit.
The teaser and the poster are pretty indicative of the film being very much a dominant-submissive romance. The story revolves around the power dynamics between the two leads.
In the film, the two enter a ‘contractual romance’ involving consensual romance and pain. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Yes! I am pretty sure I am not the only one getting reminded of Anastasia and Christian Gray from Fifty Shades of Gray.
But there’s one big difference. The vibes of the trailer are not exactly serious but more along goofy lines. Though it does show the typical BDSM tactics, especially involving leashes and tying up, the vibe seems to be more comical than sensuous.
So, I guess you should watch it with the mindset of a rom-com and not of a passionate romance.
Lee Jung Young plays a senior expert ‘submissive’ in the film while Seohyun plays a ‘dominant’ rookie. They basically switch their roles in their contractual relationship in bed.
For the rest, we probably have to wait till February 11 and find out when we get to watch the film!
