Lucasfilm President Addresses Rey’s Connection with Kenobi

With the success of Disney’s recent titles such as The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, the mouse house is all set to launch the much-anticipated story of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

The series is set to bring back Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, reviving speculations among fans about the legendary Jedi Master’s possible connections to the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

In a recent interview, Lucasfilm Head, Kathleen Kennedy, has answered long-time theories about the supposed Rey-Kenobi connection.

Lucasfilm deviated itself from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’s main storyline due to its lukewarm reception and many missing plot points, one of them being the mystery of Rey Skywalker’s lineage.

Although Rey was revealed to be a Palpatine, the fans continued to theorize that the character might be related to Obi-Wan Kenobi instead.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has stated in a new interview with Vanity Fair that Obi-Wan Kenobi was never meant to be related to Rey:

The bigger issue is talking about Obi-Wan as a Master Jedi, and the issue of attachment and selflessness. In order for Obi-Wan to have a child, you are really, really impacting the rules around the Jedi.

It’s certainly open for discussion all the time. But that’s a pretty significant tenet in the mythology of the Jedi that we’d be reluctant to mess with.

The comment holds weight as the idea of him betraying his moral codes and fathering a child goes against his Jedi legacy in a way.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s trials would test his faith, but he would emerge victoriously and remain on his mission to watch over young Luke Skywalker, as we know from the original Star Wars movie. His devotion to the Jedi’s cause is evident from this.

McGregor is set to return as the titular character. In a recent interview with Total Film, he revealed that he would be “totally up for” reprising his role outside of his solo series. He also revealed that it was “nice to come back” and commented on how different everything about the production process has become over time.
