Lucifer S6’s Biggest Mistake: Making Season 5 Pointless

There was no doubt Lucifer left fans teary and fulfilled with its final goodbye. But, it’s almost impossible to ignore that it had a significant flaw – just like other DC shows.

The flaw of having consistent high stakes and rendering the previous high-on-adrenaline season pointless.

Upping the stakes is the biggest hurdle that many Hollywood shows and movies face. Once you give fans a world-ending boss fight, you have to provide them with things much BIGGER than that in the coming releases.

Lucifer’s final season, even though a tremendous emotional tie-up of loose ends, ultimately trickled down, a bit like DC’s The Flash and Arrow.

Season 5 of Lucifer offered, quite literally, the end of the world scenario. We have God retiring and Michael assembling the Flaming Sword. A massive battle between Angels and Demons, and Chloe dies in the process, ascending to Heaven.

Lucifer, the Devil, banished from Heaven, sacrifices himself to slip on Lilith’s immortality ring on Chloe in Heaven WHILE finally saying the three magical words (and almost getting engaged!) Lucifer himself dying and coming back to be God.

With almost all big cards already played, it would be a task for the production team to keep it running—something that MCU is trying their best to do (and majorly succeeding).

Unfortunately, Season 6 sizzled down to a human villain, Vincent Le Mec, who’s fueled by revenge. But it can’t match the magic-spewing, blade-feather-winging angels fighting with demons.

Season 6 did have high points here and there. Granted.

But in comparison to Season 5’s consistent peaks throughout the episodes, Season 6 shot up during Le Mec abducting Rory, the hullabaloo of her parents rescuing her; And with one gunshot from Chloe, went back down after that. That was the highest peak in the show.

Perhaps Lucifer could have taken a different route than other DC shows for ending the show with a bang by actually breaking the timeline. By choosing to not die, by choosing to be there for his daughter and live simultaneously on Earth and Hell.

That powerful decision could have shown how Lucifer is willing to take bigger risks for the sake of his family. It would have also shown how Hell’s Helper is capable enough to make his own choices.

The finale titled ‘Partners ‘Til The End’ could have been about Lucifer NOT leaving his love of life (read: eternity) on Earth alone but rather going against the biggest villain – Fate – to stop his loved ones and himself from growing up alone.

If Lucifer were to eventually end up all alone and fall into the fate already destined, why did we even have to go through the heart-breaking scene of Chloe dying and Lucifer almost dying?

There are only a few things that could’ve topped the curiosity peak than being God. And it surely would’ve been breaking a predetermined destiny.

The series revolves around Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the Devil, who abandons Hell for Los Angeles, where he runs his own nightclub named ‘LUX’ and becomes a consultant to the LAPD. All the while working on his character development to be a better Devil/Angel.

The latest season featured the retirement of God, a lot of broken hearts and mending relationships, ambitious Angels, and the Devil taking it upon himself to right the wrongs of his dear ol’ dad, God.
