Ludwig Göransson Will Return As Black Panther’s 2 Composer

You hear that, right? It’s the sound of Ludwig Göransson preparing another Academy-winning score for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In conversation with Variety, he reveals that he is back on board as music composer for the Black Panther sequel.

It is undeniable that Göransson’s score elevated the first movie — a fitting combination that honored both, African elements and modern orchestra, fusing the two together to have a score that is only deserving of an award! (Which it won several of, including the aforementioned, Academy Award).

This was not only a hit for Black Panther, but also for the Swedish composer who garnered huge popularity. He has previously worked on projects like Creed, Venom, Tenet, The Mandalorian, among many others.

Göransson is currently working on the score of Disney-Pixar’s Turning Red, after which he will take to composing for Black Panther 2. The movie has already begun filming and he says that he’s “starting conceptual ideas and having conversations with Ryan [Coogler],” the first and second film’s writer and director.

As of now, Black Panther 2 is slated for July 8, 2022 and features Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross and others.

The film does not have an official synopsis but multiple sources have teased Wakanda’s clash with another technologically advanced civilization: Atlantis. This also calls for an introduction of Namor, the Sub-Mariner from Atlantis as the movie’s main antagonist.

Marvel and the film’s team have chosen not to recast Black Panther. Wakanda Forever will be carried forward, paying homage to late Chadwick Boseman’s legacy and bringing to light other vital members of the Wakadan clan.

Thus, Göransson’s return to the sequel to not only welcomed but also important to continue the tone of the movie.

Göransson’s Black Panther score will be performed live-to-picture at the Hollywood Bowl on September 10-12 for the first time ever. Performance by: Senegalese singer Baaba Maal, the LA Phil Orchestra, and an ensemble of African drummers.

Did not pay enough attention to Göransson’s score in Black Panther? Well, that’s a good reason to go re-watch the movie.
