What Happened At The End Of Lupin Part 2?

Lupin, a modern-day series based on the classic French story about Arsène Lupin, the world-famous gentleman thief and master of disguise, dropped its Part 2 on Netflix last week.

The series has gained quite some popularity since it first premiered on Netflix in January. Fans didn’t have to wait much longer for the release of Part 2. But when a show leaves one with cliff-hangers, even a short wait of about six months feels like a lot.

Part 1 left off with Raoul, Assane’s son, being kidnapped by Leonard, one of Hubert Pellegrini’s henchmen. Just when Raoul was being taken away, Detective Youssef Guedira finally came face-to-face with Assane himself. This left fans wondering what Assane Diop would be up to next and if he would get caught by Guedira.

Lupin Part 2 picked up right where Part 1 left off and was packed with a lot of twists and turns. Part 2 finished up with the main plot while setting up a potential Part 3. With Pellegrini and Dumont getting arrested and Assane on the run, the Part 2 finale had many loose ends that would pave the way for another new season.

Assane had to go into hiding after he was framed for Leonard’s death, faked by Pellegrini, who sent another one of his henchmen after Leonard. Just as everyone thought that Assane would end up getting caught, he was already way ahead. Assane hired a young man named Philippe Courbet, who acted as Pellegrini’s financial advisor and convinced him to turn Juliette’s charity concert into an opportunity to launder money.

Assane was able to resend the money into the charity’s account and used a smartwatch to record Pellegrini’s confession, which included plans to frame Babakar Diop from the start for the theft of the necklace, then have Leonard kill him in prison before collecting on the insurance money.

With Guedira’s assistance in finding evidence against Dumont and Pellegrini, Assane was able to send the confession and remain the unbeatable master con man. Guedira eventually figured out that Assane was using Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin stories as an inspiration for his heists.

Assane had to leave Paris to avoid being caught by the police. He can no longer hide at Benjamin’s store or his apartment as they’ve both been discovered. Neither can he go to Claire and Raoul’s place, as that’s where the cops would look for him. This leaves us with the question of where he’d hideout.

Assane’s family tree is a mystery, aside from Babakar. So there’s a chance that he might leave France to pay a little visit to relatives living elsewhere in Europe. This would give us more details about his backstory and aid in setting up his return to Paris for Season 3.

Whereas Claire and Assane’s relationship looked like it hit another bump in Part 2. Claire went to Pellegrini when Raoul was kidnapped. This seemed like a betrayal to Assane in a way and obviously hurt him. Despite their ups and downs, there’s hope for them to mend their relationship, and Claire seems willing to forgive Assane by the end of Part 2.

With Assane being on the run, it leaves the possibilities of him pulling a number of cons to get back to Paris open.

For one, it’s possible that Assane could meet the show’s version of Herlock Sholmes (Yes, you read that right). Maurice Leblanc’s character was hilariously named that way due to copyright issues after Arthur Conan Doyle complained about the original use of his character ‘Sherlock Holmes.’

So will Lupin’s next season see the gentleman burglar cross paths with Sherlock Holmes? Why Not? It would be interesting to see how they make everyone’s favorite detective dance with everyone’s favorite thief and master of disguise.

Although it is impossible to top Sherlock and Moriarty’s game, if Netflix will, maybe they could cast Benedict Cumberbatch (or a lookalike) as Sholmes and, in a way, give us the Sherlock content we all have been longing for so long.

Part 1 and 2 of Lupin are now available to stream on Netflix.
