Lupin Part 2 Makes Matters Worse For Assane’s Biggest Plot-Hole

Lupin Part 2 had its debut on Netflix last week and since has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Not only did the latest installment prove that Omar Sy’s gentleman thief is a mastermind like no other capable of plotting elaborate plans, always ahead of his enemies, it also amplified his biggest mistake from Part 1.

The brand-new chapter in the popular French series shoved Assane and his loved ones into the eye of the storm following the cliffhanger ending of the previous season. With the threat to his life more pronounced and surrounded by deception, he is forced to come out of hiding and face his nemesis head-on.

This involved some desperate measures taken by Assane to take down the notorious Pellegrini patriarch, Hubert (Herve Pierre), including attacking him in public to extract a confession out of him about framing his father, Babakar. But just when it seemed Assane’s ruin was close, conflicted detective Youssef Guedira found out that Assane had recorded Hubert’s confession on his smartwatch and forwarded it to the authorities.

Although this was an expected genius twist from Lupin, it also questioned his previous attempt at bringing Pellegrini down via the VHS tape in Part 1. Given the lengths he went to expose and reveal the truth publicly in Part 2 makes Assane’s failure at making a backup copy of the tape seem ludicrous.

It has elicited one of the biggest gripes from fans of the show who have mocked it as an oversight which now has been made to look even worse. The blunder took place in Part 1 Episode 4 when Assane discovers key evidence against Hubert from Fabienne Beriot, a journalist, which also included a tape containing incriminating information.

However, when Assane brings it to a TV station and emerges in disguise to reveal the evidence, he is stopped by a corrupt TV anchor who has been pocketed by Pellegrini and destroys the tape. The fact that Lupin failed to make a copy of the tape, especially when he is a master manipulator with infinite resources handy, is simply absurd.

Now with Part 2’s added complexities, both situations have been brought under scrutiny and comparison. But hopefully, this error will be taken into consideration by the show’s creators and corrected in Part 3.
