Chris Hemsworth’s Mad Max: Furiosa commenced filming on June 1.
The Thor: Love and Thunder actor announced it with a behind-the-scenes photo of a slate signaling start of a “new journey” of the Mad Max franchise.
The slate gives an intense vibe as it’s set on the ground against the backdrop of gray clouds.
Hemsworth’s role in the prequel/spin-off is yet undisclosed. The actor, best recognized for his role as MCU’s God, Thor, will have a chance to show off more of his charms and talent with the action-packed thriller.
In a press conference via Yahoo, Hemsworth opened up on getting a role in the franchise he grew up watching and loving. .
[Working on ‘Furiosa’] is the biggest pinch-myself moment, because I’ve grown up watching it [‘Mad Max’] and it’s so iconic. It is a huge honor. A lot of pressure, but exciting pressure that is certainly motivating.

Furiosa is a spin-off and a prequel to the highly successful and critically-acclaimed 2015 movie, Mad Max: Fury Road.
The prequel will be helmed by the same original team that weaved magic with Fury Road. George Miller sits on the director’s chair and as a co-screenwriter. Meanwhile, Nico Lathouris has also co-written the screenplay and story with Miller, while Doug Mitchell continues his position as the producer.
Furiosa, as the name suggests, revolves around Imperator Furiosa’s hard-hitting origin story. It will explore Furiosa’s childhood, what lay before the current wasteland, and her journey to becoming a powerful, fierce captain.
While Charlize Theron made the role iconic with her flawless acting, The Queen’s Gambit actress Ayna Tayor-Joy will take over the role of Furiosa.
The prequel’s production and release dates were delayed multiple times due to the pandemic and Hemsworth’s commitments to other projects. However, Mad Max: Furiosa is now slated for release on May 24, 2024.

Mad Max: Furiosa is an upcoming prequel/spin-off to the 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road. The prequel is directed by one of the Mad Max franchise creators, George Miller.
Furiosa will focus on the Imperator Furiosa, a war captain, and her childhood. The movie will illustrate the pre-apocalyptic world, Furiosa’s family, her experiences, and finally, her journey to becoming one of the best captains.
Anya Taylor-Joy will play the role of young Furiosa. The film also stars Chris Hemsworth as Furiosa’s enemy and Tom Burke in an undisclosed role. The movie is scheduled for a release on May 24, 2024.
