James Gunn’s involvement in both the MCU & DCU hasn’t been a smooth ride, but some of his closest friends have stuck with him through thick and thin. Now that Gunn is the co-CEO of DC Studios and his directorial duties at Marvel will soon end, the filmmaker is thinking of hooking up his Guardians of the Galaxy cast with new roles in the DCU.
In an interview with Empire, the director stated his GOTG cast are more like family now, and even hinted at offering them new roles over at DC Studios. Read his full quote below:
This cast is like my family. I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldaña, and Karen Gillan. But I also know I will work again with all those people individually. Probably at my other job.
Considering the chemistry between the filmmaker and the cast of this particular MCU film, we aren’t surprised that Gunn wants to work with them individually again. And this wouldn’t be the first time Gunn has used the same actors between the MCU and DCU! We know MCU’s Sean Gunn (GOTG Vol.2) joined the Suicide Squad cast, and DCU’s Chukwudi Iwuji (Peacemaker) will play High Evolutionary in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
The latest Guardians of the Galaxy instalment will mark the end of the OG Guardians in the MCU, with the upcoming 2023 film documenting their last adventure together. A few emotional deaths have been teased, with the fandom betting on Rocket and Drax biting it, so we think they’ll meet Gunn’s possible offer to join the DCU wholeheartedly.
Bautista has already shown an interest in bringing the DC Comics character Bane to life on-screen.
All the future plans laid down by Gunn will definitely come to fruition soon, till then we hope to see Pratt and his fellow cast members in the DCU.

Will Poulter and Chukwudi Iwuji will join the cast as Adam Warlock and The High Evolutionary.
