The First Teaser Trailer for Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ Is Here

The first teaser trailer for Marvel’s upcoming Eternals is here, giving us a first look at the star-studded ensemble of superheroes. To say that the trailer has a lot going on in it is an understatement. We see the Eternals’ arrival on Earth in a spaceship, a glimpse at their powers, a Bollywood dance sequence, and a traditional Indian wedding between Ikaris and Sersi.

The trailer, fittingly, features the song “The End of the World” by Skeeter Davis, as the film is set in the post-Endgame era. In the trailer, Sprite asks the Eternals, “So now that Captain Rodgers and Iron Man are gone, who do you think’s gonna lead the Avengers?” To which Ikaris replies, “I could lead them,” before everyone present bursts out laughing.

Along with the trailer, Marvel also dropped a poster for Eternals, and it has a very cosmic feel to it.

The official synopsis of the Eternals states it as, “The epic story, spanning thousands of years, features a group of immortal heroes forced out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s oldest enemy, The Deviants.”

The film will focus on Marvel Comics’ cosmic characters. In the comics, they’re an immortal alien race living on Earth who possess extraordinary powers—created by The Celestials, a group of space gods, to defend Earth.

Up until now, Thanos was the only Eternal introduced in the MCU. Whereas the Celestials that have been introduced so far include the space station Knowhere featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, which is a Celestial’s severed head, and Peter Quill’s biological father, Ego.

The film was pushed back by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing director Chloé Zhao to finish Nomadland, for which she won her first Oscars. Eternals was filmed in the Canary Islands and England, so it uses real environments and primarily natural lighting.

The cast includes Richard Madden as the all-powerful Ikaris; Gemma Chan as humankind-loving Sersi; Kumail Nanjiani as cosmic-powered Kingo; Salma Hayek as the wise and spiritual leader Ajak; Lia McHugh as the eternally young, old-soul Sprite; Don Lee as the powerful Gilgamesh; Barry Keoghan as aloof loner Druig; and Angelina Jolie as the fierce warrior Thena.

Kit Harington will play Dane Whitman, who becomes Black Knight in the comics. Brian Tyree Henry will play Phastos—the first openly gay superhero in the MCU. Lauren Ridloff will play the MCU’s first deaf superhero, Makkari, originally a male character in the comics. Kevin Fiege mentioned in an interview with Variety about wanting to have more diverse and inclusive characters.
