Marvel Divulges New Secrets and Alternate Plans for ‘WandaVision’

The many creative minds behind Marvel’s WandaVision, from Elizabeth Olsen to Kevin Feige, have revealed new secrets about the hit Disney+ series.

Earlier this year, WandaVision kicked off MCU Phase 4 with a sitcom-inspired tale that didn’t exactly fit in with the typical Marvel brand. As the show began, it appeared to be about the domestic adventures of Wanda Maximoff and Vision, but by the end, things looked different.

Olsen, Bettany, and the other brilliant creators behind WandaVision sat down with Rolling Stone for a comprehensive oral history of the show. Throughout the session, several new details were revealed, including some ideas that didn’t work out.

WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer revealed that in earlier drafts of the series, Kat Dennings’ Dr. Darcy Lewis had more of her story fleshed out before she got to the Westview Hex, which separated Wanda’s grief-induced magical town from the rest of the world.

Part of the plot was set to include Darcy’s grandmother blipping while Darcy remained alive, although Schaeffer admitted it was too much of a detour. In the end, this was infused into all the later writing for Darcy so that it still ended up as part of her character.

Additionally, there were plans for a storyline about xenophobia, with the Westview residents turning against the Sokovian Wanda and the robot Vision.

Schaeffer also let out the true reasons why Wanda broadcast her time within Westview—she wanted to perfectly curate her experiences, and she was calling for help.

Jac Schaeffer also reveals that the original ending of WandaVision had Dr. Strange and Wanda riding off into the sunset together.

On the other hand, songwriter Kristen Anderson-Lopez wished to give Agatha a bigger musical moment similar to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”.

Besides the ideas that didn’t work out, the feature shared fresh behind-the-scenes tidbits for the things that did make it in.

Kevin Feige revealed the title WandaVision was inspired by the movie BlacKkKlansman because he was fascinated with how the two words were mushed together.

Stepping beyond WandaVision, Olsen confirmed that her character will have a thicker accent in Doctor Strange 2. Olsen explained that the change is of Wanda’s own making because she had been trying to hold on to an American sitcom world and play the part the best she can, which she no longer has to.

The piece also revealed that there was a point when the writers realized that the decision to cast Evan Peters in a meta role blew up in their faces, with all the ludicrous fan-theorizing.

When it comes to a show like WandaVision, every little detail matters. It is true, that everything that you wish can’t be executed in real and that is what happened onscreen.

Whether or not WandaVision finds some awards love, it’s undoubtedly one of the most creative MCU creations yet.
