Masters Of The Universe Director’s Takes A Jab At Fan Criticism

A day after its release, Masters of the Universe: Revelation got review-bombed on claims of false advertising. In response, director Kevin Smith makes a subtle dig at fans on Twitter, but it does not go swimmingly.

The remark came wrapped in the news that Smith will be beginning production for Clerks III, his black and white debut work that gave him his big break.

About the Clerk’s III script, he wrote about surprising lead Brian O’Halloran by killing off his character in the first act itself… much like how He-Man was killed off in the first episode of Masters of the Universe: Revelation

Smith also added in “My storytelling senses tell me audiences universally love that trope…” and we can’t help but think the “universally” was intended to be a pun.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation suffers from two main complains — the false advertising that hyped up He-Man’s return, and then, the uncharacteristic death of He-Man right in episode one, nothing short of a betrayal.

It is one thing to reply in kind to trolling, (or better, to ignore it altogether). But responses on the tweet line out genuine criticism and disappointment from fans. Smith purposing provoking fans then seems unwarranted.

But perhaps for Smith, all press is good press. Especially since he had previously indicated the yet-to-be-released part two of Masters of the Universe will feature He-Man, in a capacity that die-hard fans can really enjoy it.

Epic fights between He-Man and Skeletor/Skelegod have also been teased in an earlier tweet.

The first five episodes have surely set the stage up, with Skeletor growing stronger. For goodness to triumph, it will take all the heros to come together, He-Man included.

He-Man’s re-apperance on Masters of the Universe (and how exactly that happens) may be just the antidote needed to cure upset fans.

Till then, Smith has plenty to keep himself busy with, Clerk III and all. Let’s just hope there is no more subtweeting to He-Man fans.
