The official Twitter account for 20th Century Studios’ upcoming medieval epic drama, The Last Duel, just dropped the first clip from the film, featuring Jodie Comer and Matt Damon.
The clip features Damon’s Jean de Carrouges and Comer’s Marguerite de Carrouges as they argue about the consequences Marguerite has to face if Jean is defeated in the duel.
Jean argues that it is God’s will and that he is risking his life for her. But she retaliates by saying that Jean is doing it for his pride and that their child risks being an orphan if he loses.
the film is based on Eric Jager’s The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France and is set in 14th-century France, specifically 1386.
It tells the story of a trial by combat in which Jean de Carrouges dueled against Jacques Le Gris. Carrouges accuses Le Gris of raping his wife Marguerite de Carrouges. The last man standing at the end of the duel would be declared the winner as a sign of God’s will. However, if Carrouges loses the duel, his wife would be burned at stake as a punishment.

The Last Duel is a gripping tale of betrayal and vengeance set against the brutality of 14th century France, directed by visionary filmmaker and four-time Academy Award® nominee Ridley Scott.
Alongside Comer and Damon, other cast members include Adam Driver, Ben Affleck, Harriet Walter, Nathaniel Parker, Sam Hazeldine, and Michael McElhatton.
Directed and produced by Ridley Scott, The Last Duel will be Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s first writing collaboration since their Oscar-winning film, Good Will Hunting. If you’ve seen the 1997 film, you know this is going to be a good one.
The Last Duel is currently set to arrive in theaters on October 15, 2021.
