The Batman 2 is Still in the Works According to Original Director

Warner Bros. Discovery’s latest cancellation sweep of DC superhero movies and shows has spelled jeopardy for many future projects. Even though ex-CEO Emmerich announced The Batman 2’s development in April 2022, after Zaslav’s takeover, the sequel’s future was touch-and-go for a while.

But now Matt Reeves, who directed the 2022 film, has confirmed that the trilogy is still on track, with the already confirmed spinoffs also currently in development. In Deadline’s report, Reeves assured fans that he and Robert Pattinson are still very much involved with the studio to make the sequel.

Making this legendary studio my home is a dream. I am so excited to be working with Mike, Pam, Channing, and our teams to bring captivating stories I am truly passionate about to the big and small screen.

The Batman sequel’s confirmation is a cause of relief for the fans of original film, many of whom are commending Reeves’ take on Gotham and Pattinson’s portrayal of a tortured Bruce Wayne. Their continued involvement puts things in focus for the studio about the future of the trilogy and other spinoffs.

Matt Reeves ensured the DC fandom that the Arkham Asylum spinoff and The Penguin are also underway. Given that these projects have now been greenlit, we can expect a script and production to start sometime in 2023.

While nothing about a possible plot for the sequel is currently in the plans, Reeves has previously shown interest in involving Robin, Hush, Court of Owls, and a few more characters in the fray. The 2022 film already laid one of Batman’s most formidable nemeses to be used in the sequel, introducing Barry Keoghan’s Joker in the post-credit scene.

Pattinson has also mapped out a pattern he intends to follow in the years he will perform as the tortured vigilante. But filming is a long way down, so we can expect The Batman 2 to hit theaters sometime in mid-2024.
