Upcoming MCU X-Men Project Title Revealed Before SDCC Panel

An X-Men reboot has been in play under Marvel Studios, and the title for the upcoming MCU project may have been revealed days before Marvel’s SDCC panel.

Marvel Studios had gained the rights to X-Men, The Fantastic Four, and more after Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s movie assets a few years back. Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, has been expressing his wish to reboot the two iconic franchises in the MCU ever since it was legally possible.

The Mutants

The path to building a connection to the mutants’ entry into the MCU has already begun. MCU TV series Ms. Marvel’s final episode revealed that Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), is a mutant, making her the first in the MCU and thus laying out the work of the introduction of an X-Men reboot.

Of course, this is not the only prominent introduction of the X-Men in the MCU. The 2022 MCU film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness featured a cameo of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, the founder of the X-Men team.

The character had returned to a different universe than what exists in the MCU, but it has definitely raised expectations to see more of the old characters coming to the MCU. With SDCC 2022 and Marvel’s return to the fan event, fans are holding on to justifiable expectations of hearing any news about the possibly upcoming X-Men MCU project.

But ahead of the panel at SDCC 2022, Deadline has released an article on what can be expected at SDCC from Marvel, and one of the titles mentioned could possibly be for the X-Men project.

According to the article, the titles disclosed are upcoming MCU projects set for either 2023 or later, and the title we are referring to is also present in the list, simply called “The Mutants.”

There’s still stuff we haven’t seen, specifically the Fantastic Four reboot, Mahershala Ali in The Blade, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (due May 5), The Marvels (July 28, 2023), and The Mutants.

The article makes no other comment on the MCU reboot of the X-men, so we cannot say whether the project will be a series or a film.

But, since the article clubs the with upcoming MCU films, we can assume that The Mutants might be a film/film series. The title is clever as it will not invoke any legal issues and also avoid viewers confusing the new reboot to be clubbed with Fox films.

With Phase 4 projects slowly coming to an end, MCU Phase 5 might be the perfect opportunity to introduce the X-Men reboot along with The Fantastic Four reboot and Mahershala Ali’s Blade.

About The Mutants

The Mutants is the working title for the upcoming X-Men reboot in the MCU. Marvel Studios has not yet confirmed the name.

The Mutants will be a reboot of the X-Men franchise in the MCU, as Kevin Feige has stated his interest in rebooting the superhero franchises of X-Men and The Fantastic Four under Marvel Studios. MCU has already introduced Ms. Marvel as MCU’s first Mutant following the appearance of Professor X (Patrick Stewart) from the X-Men film series in a cameo in Doctor Strange In The multiverse Of Madness.

No plot or cast list is yet available for the project, and more information will hopefully be available after the 2022 SDCC.
