Michael B. Jordan’s 2021 film Without Remorse, based on the 1993 novel of the same name, was intended to have a sequel, Rainbow Six. The first film may have been stuck in development hell for over two decades, but the sequel will not receive the same fate if recent updates can be trusted. The latest development?
The Hollywood Reporter reports the sequel to Tom Clancy’s Without Remorse has found the director, and the choice won’t disappoint! John Wick: Chapter 4 director Chad Stahilski will helm the upcoming project as the director, and we already know how good he is with a camera.
Without Remorse was released during the COVID-19 pandemic, so it did not get a chance to try its luck in theaters. Rainbow Six will be released theatrically, although the list of countries remains unconfirmed, and we know Jordan is returning as Kelly and will also serve as a producer in the sequel.
Rainbow Six follows the 2021 film’s story, which served as an origin story for the CIA operative. The sequel’s filming will commence in the later-half of 2023, so we expect the film to release in late 2024. Other details, including the plot and a complete cast list, remain in the shadows, the only recent update being the director joining the party.
Thanks to the end-credit scene of Without Remorse and Clancy’s Rainbow Six novel, we have some ideas about what the film could focus on.
The end-credit scene showed the new CIA director Robert Ritter recruiting John Clark and asking him to head a multinational counter-terrorist team. Clark takes the job deliberating upon a name and fixing on Rainbow, and the novel has much in store for Team Rainbow.
If the film were to follow the novel, Rainbow Six would follow the titular team across countries, wiping out terrorist organizations and stumbling upon The Project, which will bring doomsday upon them. We’ll keep you posted on any further development surrounding the sequel.
